I bought a precious sun conure two days ago, he is absolutely sweet but today in the evening he sneezed twice, then tonight when I went into the room where he was sleeping he woke up and was making a strange noise... It's like when he breathes it vibrates! Is this normal?!
I am so worried, I usually only hear him make his normal squeak type bird noise... Any help is appreciated.

If you're absolutely scared, then call a vet and ask them. I think perhaps your conure may have just had a tickle in his nose and sneezed. Lucy has learned to mimic my sneeze lol

My conure chatters in her sleep. Does it sound kind of like a grinding sound? If so, Lu grinds her beak in her sleep. My pionus Bleu does it as well :)

Maybe it's that... If it was congestion what would it be like?
I don't see any discharge...

I wouldn't panic. If possible, could you take a video and upload it to youtube or something so I can take a listen? :) Lucy hasn't been sick since I've had her (knock on wood) so I'm not sure what congestion sounds like per se, BUT I do know that she snorts sometimes and Bleu snorts a lot haha If there's no discharge then I think you baby is fine :)

also, if you woke him up while he was sleeping, it could be the groggy "what do you want? I'm sleeeeppingggg! I don't wanna go to school!" chatter haha birds make all kinds of wierd noises. But as always, if you're really concerned check with your vet just to make sure :)

Thank you so much for your help,
He finally went back to sleep and is no longer making the sound, once he woke up all the way he stopped making it... He seems to make it when he is either waking up or dozing off... I'm taking him to a spe******t vet tomorrow just to make sure...
I really appreciate your post, im feeling a little better... He is just such a precious bird, if something happened to him he could never be replaced... And I feel like this after only two days :)

Respiratory problems are usually noticed by a sort of raspy breathing, a whistling sound while breathing, or a tail bob while breathing, discharge, or frequent sneezing.

Parrots don't have diaphrams like we do and therefor when they are having trouble breathing you can often see their tail move as they make the effort....

Respiratory problems are best treated early, so just have the vet listen and look him over to be sure.

Otherwise respiratory problems can get serious in just a matter of hours in some cases.

Keep us updated! I hope it's just a birdy sound that he's making. Birds can even snore.
