I have had my conure for almost 3 weeks.I been putting paper at the bottom of the cage for easier cleanup.I've notice that my conure has been tearing the paper up to pieces why is that?

It's FUN! :) Lucy and Bleu both have rolls of adding tape in their cages for them to tear up and shred and have fun with :) Lucy loves ripping apart the paper towels at the bottom of her perch too!

You could try a rice based cat litter in the tray. Works a treat & doesn't have to be changes so ofter & is safe for parrots.

Conures are shredders in the wild also. They come hard wired to shred. That is why we give them toys that shred.

Shreadable toys are FUN! The new BCC in my flock, Rosa, loves to destroy her toys in as quick of a time as possible. Put a light, thinly woven toy near her and she rips it to pieces. I need to get her toys that are dense and thick if I want them to last any length of time at all.

Paper is fun too but I'd be concerned about the chemicals and ink in it. One of my most successful distractions is a long thin strip of woven reed on a roll. Just pull off as much as needed and tie it in various places around the perches or bars. I usually get it from one of the big name stores.

River loves this shredding toy. This picture was taken right after he got it, about a month ago. Everyday there's more of it laying in little bits on the bottom of the cage.

I like that big ladder. How does he do on it?

He does great on it. Climbs up and down, and likes climbs inbetween the rungs too. It reaches from the top of the cage down to the perch that goes between the bowls.

My Dusky LOVES to shred paper. She has a "Lucky Bird Paper Roll Shredder". She just loooooooooves to rip the paper out of it. I'll find huge pieces of the paper at the bottom of her cage all chewed through. I didn't buy it for her. The guy I adopted her from bought it for her and she came with a bunch of refills for it. I didn't even know they made such a thing!!! She enjoys it and it lasts a decent amount of time for her. I'd say she goes through a roll and a half in a year. Maybe 2 rolls. It's not too bad considering she actually plays with it and loves it.

I'm just glad she can't get to the paper at the bottom of her cage... I shudder to think what she'd be eating off them trying to shred it. :/
