Anyone ever try recording the noises their birds make and playing it back to them?

I did it the other night and got a very unpleasant surprise. I was making a comment to a friend of mine about the different noises that Rosa makes compared to Tootsie. She knows Tootsie but has not yet met Rosa so I decided to make a recording of her to send to my friend. I played it back to edit out the silent parts and when Rosa heard it....holy cow! Did she get MAD! She charged to as close as she could get on her play pen and started squawking and lunging at me. I absently raised my hand towards her to shush her and the next thing I knew she was latched onto my little finger biting for all she was worth. Drew blood with a split right through the quick of the finger. Surprised, I pulled my hand back and she came with it and stayed clamped on for half a second before she let go and fell into my lap. She then jumped onto the floor and started running around still puffed up and squawking.

Needless to say I was shocked. I have played back recordings of Tootsie to her plenty of times before Rosa came. She would get excited and start calling but nothing like what Rosa did. Though Rosa came to me as a "she" I'm pretty sure this bird is male and was reacting in a territorial defense manner. Ready to defend his mate and territory from the "intruder". If I ever record them again I will certainly be wearing headphones.

I'm curious if anyone else has played back their bird's noises to them and what kind of reaction they had to it.

I go on Youtube sometimes and let him watch others of his same species, he gets confused sometimes but mostly tries in vain to comunicate with them. On a good note when our Jenday got out we were able to tape those same sounds and get him to tell us where he was, and in which tree!

I have recorded video of my cockatiel, Opi. Once I was watching the video and he was in the room and went crazy making noises. Didn't seem upset. Certainly didn't react like yours did.
I have watched videos of Conures and while Opi doesn't react much, Keen (my conure) DOES react. He just gets interested and VERY loud.

BTW: OUCH on the finger!!

I played Mishka recording of other birds talking etc.....
He become extremely vocal, talking louder than the recording.
I guess he wants to be the centre of attraction

Ouch!!!

I've played back Puck's recordings of himself, and he gets all excited and looks like he hopes another bird is around. He also likes hearing/watching videos of other birds. One time I decided to look up caiques mating (curiosity) and he immediately started to try to mate with my hand! After that I've been pretty convinced they can see/understand video.

Ive recorded my own voice pretty magnificent by the way and played it back to him, and used a childs voice to play over & over again repeatedly saying his name In HOPE and Dispair of him learning to speak. And his whistles catch his attention when played back.
So far I can get him to say Whhhaa when I say Whhhaaat? He also lifts his shoulders which are actually his wings.. .
