Pellets are a balanced diet. Seeds have too much fat in them for birds in our homes as they do not fly miles after miles everyday to find food, and use all the fat in seeds. Seeds also cause health problems such as fat deposits on the liver. Seeds are used in most birds diet but only as treats. Most birds live longer on a pellet diet that has fresh food included.

It would probably be a good idea to start slowly introducing pellets. My birds get a 70/30 pellet/seed blend. I use Roudybush pellets and a safflower seed blend mixed in.

I agree, your bird needs BOTH pellets and seeds. My Conures will only eat Zupreem Fruitblend pellets while my Grey likes Harrison's.

Ava(peach faced lovebird) and my very first bird
Leroy (black headed caique) my little moody bird
Dusty (hahns macaw) my clown
I would switch him over to pellets...my birds get seed as a treat.
It will take some time but don't get discouraged...when I got my lovebird, she was on an all seed diet but I got her switched over to pellets and she loves them now...but it did take some time..she was very stubborn....
We use Zupreem Fruity blend but you will find what works for your bird...make sure you get the right size pellets.
I would use the ten day method and see if it works. You know, first day 10% pellet to 90% seed, second day 20% pellet to 80% seed and keep working in that direction until you are at 100% pellets. With my Ava it took about 14 days but it does work. Good luck.

forget pets at home etc, look at northern parrots for pellets and toys etc its on line but easy to order and they do deliver swiftly, also there pellets get reduced from time to time (but bare in mind these will be near dated) avoid sunflower seeds! zu preem nut seems to like better then harrisons, but the switch over can be costly! i've also tasted the pellets an fully understand why nut is not over keen oin them

the uk debate with pellets is slightly diff as over here pellet with fresh fruit an veg or seed/fresh fruit an veg with suppliments, and personnally i think a balanced diet is a varied diet, so i just adjust what ever nut has to ensure she has all she needs from her food, but it remains interesting for her, so pass few days she's had chicken and bones, so i increase her fresh and not give her lafebers or her seed mix only pellets and so on, she is also fully flighted an flies all over, so i don't worry about her gettin fat:11:

My OWA was 14 years old and never saw a pellet until i got her. The change over can be hard but well worth it for a healthier bird. A diet that is varied is key to great health.

My conure just switched from seed to pellets. I use roudybush pellets (mini sized) and fresh fruits and veggies or birdie bread daily. Lucy also gets a few pumpkin seeds everyday since they're high in a good vitamin/nutrient (the name of it escapes me now... but its supposed to help with feather chewing). She gets safflower seeds as reward for doing things i ask her
