Green Cheek Pineapple Conure

So i just bought my first conure and he has amazing blues. yellows, reds, greens, whites, and grays but the pet store i bought it from didn't give me any info. So i was wondering if you guys cud help me tell wether its a girl or boy and his/her age. please.

You can't tell by looking whether it is male or female, unfortunately, you will have to DNA sex it if you want to know. The same goes for age, you can't really tell by looking...The pet store should have been able to give you an idea of its age. Congrats on your new baby, I have two myself. One cinnamon and one pineapple. I am fixing to send off some of their feathers for DNA testing so I will know if they are boys or girls or one of each.

thank you.! lokii is somewhat comfortable with me holding him/her but when it come to holding lokii the next day i still struggle with getting lokii out and he/she does bite but not very hard unless i'm wearing a glove.

You are probably pushing your baby too hard and too fast. They should be given a few days or weeks to settle in and get to know you. You should start by sitting by their cage talking or reading to them until they get used to you. You should wait for them to make the first move to show they are ready for more interaction. You may be making the bird bite by pushing him too quickly. Slow don and be patient. Let the trust build before you try to handle her.

Ditto! I, too, think it's a yellow sided green cheek and not a pineapple. But I suppose it could be a lighting/camera issue that makes the head look darker.

Ditto! I, too, think it's a yellow sided green cheek and not a pineapple. But I suppose it could be a lighting/camera issue that makes the head look darker.

Also the dark beak, pineapples have light beaks.

That is true. It is most likely a yellow sided.

It usually takes birds a while to bond with you. They're intelligent, and their whole world gets turned upside down when they move to a new home. It often takes a while for the bird to get to know and trust you.

You can help the process by not pushing the bird's limits. Spend time near it, but not too close if it appears nervous. If it's not comfortable being handled much, don't push it. You can also use yummy foods as bribes!

When I first got my cockatiels when I was a kid, my mom and I would pin millet sprays to our shirts and walk around with the birds on us, so they'd be happy to be with us. Puck LOVES toast with jelly! He loves it so much that if he sees me holding it, he'll get mad at me because he doesn't have it already. LOL. Caiques have serious attitudes.

Also, make sure you've got your new friend on a good diet! It's VERY important! It prevents illness, and in some cases, behavioral problems. Seeds should only be given as a treat, not as a main food source. Pellets are more balanced. I like Harrison's because they're organic, and it was one of the ones that my vet recommended. I feed Puck the high potency one, because I want him to have as much nutrition as possible.

It's also a good idea to take your bird in for a checkup with an avian vet, just to be sure that it's healthy. Birds often don't show signs of illness until it's serious, so it's important to try to catch things before symptoms show.

so the food i use know is a kaytee forti-diet pro health should i switch it?
and also my grandma had got a cockatiel for her birthday in september and he is an older bird but he gets super nervous and looks like he dances when someone comes up to the cage still and he wont let anyone hold him but he does pick things up very well and can talk a little bit. but we dont know what else to do with him to help him get more comfortable he's very picky.

I like Harrison's pellets because they are organic and have a good reputation. My vet mentioned that she didn't like kaytee for some reason, I forget why. It's also important that they get lots of fruits and veggies (except avacado and chocolate, which they say can poison your bird).

As for the cockatiel, it's good important to respect his feelings. However, birds can often be bribed with treats! I used to pin millet to my shirt and let them ride around while they nibbled on the millet. If he's not to that stage yet, he can still probably be bribed to come closer with treats! Toast (especially with jam) is one of Puck's favorite treats.

I would recommend same thing with the tiel as your conure. Slow, talking, letting him come out at his pace. Not forcing.
As for food- it's totally up to you; very personal choice on feeding. I feed Keen and Opi the Zupreem Fruit Blend, a little a natural Kaytee pellet/seed mix (because I'm using it up from previous purchase) and they get sunflower seeds (2-5 daily) as a treat for doing something I ask. They also both get some type of veggie, fruit, bean or something daily from my kitchen. Opi always ignores it, but I keep offering because one day he'll eventually TRY it.

Also, look at it from his/her side. The cage should be a safe place to be, and not some place a gloved talon looking thing is going to come in and grab him from time to time. How would you feel?

Let the choice to come up be his. Offer yourself a few times a day, and his natural curiosity will eventually overcome his fear. Ever hear that the best way to get someone interested in you is to ignore them? Kind of like that.

thank you guys for your help! me and lokii are bonding wonderfully! he looves to sit on my head or be at the high point of something! he even gives me kisses now and willingly lets me hold him! my teddy bear is his best friend now. the cockatiel is still shady but were working with him slowly.
