Chika, my green cheek conure. She is my first bird.
I am going to college in a few years, and because I will have less time to spend with my little girly (and I'd love another bird!) I was thinking of getting her a friend so she isn't all alone for most of the day. I can't trust my parents to give her the attention she needs daily, so as soon as I can, I will buy an apartment. This summer, I will begin putting money in a bank account for the apartment, when I get a job. I'm not concerned about space, as I am planning on building an indoor aviary at LEAST 4' by 5'. The bird's loudness is indeed an issue because I will share walls with neighbors.
These are some species I'm interested in: pearly conure, crimson-bellied conure, and the painted conure. Basically any Pyrrhura species of conure is acceptable, as long as the bird itself is not over $300. I also love parrotlets, and despite hearing that they're aggressive with other birds, I have not met one that was not friendly with other birds. Are there any other types of birds that are quiet and normally under $300? I am open to other species, but I don't have a lot of experience with other types of birds. I'd prefer the birds to be compatible, but I know that depends on the birds themselves.
Any ideas or comments about the birds I have listed?

Oh, or a lineolated parakeet? I love them, they are on my list of birds that I would like to breed someday :)

You should never buy a pet for a pet... If you don't have time for one bird, you certainly don't have time for two...

Parrots live for a very long time, and you seem to have many years already panned out....

Give your little one all your love...

I was thinking this same thing. With two birds the work goes up, way up. Not like other animals where adding one more is just a bit more work. In order to give them enough one on one attention there is alot of juggling involved. This said however, if you really want to add another, my daughter has a lineolated parakeet (linnie). She is such a sweet bird. I always say the perfect bird for me would be a linnie in the size of an amazon! They are affectionate, funny, quiet! Perfect little birds!
