I've noticed many people on here commenting that they feed their GCC peppers. For those of you that do, what type(s) of peppers are you speaking off? I've seen dried red chili peppers as treats at the pet stores. Do you feed fresh peppers? If yes, what kind?
Would dried chili peppers from the grocery store be ok?

Thanks!

I feed various fresh peppers. Red,yellow, orange mild peppers and jalapenos. I dice a lot up and freeze them then thaw a pinch at a time. I would think grocery store dried ones are the same thing. Just check the label to make sure there's no salt added.

Amigo loves fresh serranos and jalepeno peppers. I give them to him whole and he'll spend about 10mins. munching on one. It's amazing to me how much he likes them 'cause they're really spicy hot!

I go to farm fresh and grab a handful for the "assorted peppers" it's like a bunch of different types of jalapenos and chili peppers. Both fids just love orange bell peppers :) Lucy like habanero peppers too, bleu just licks them, doesn't actually eat them. I'm considering ghost peppers next, they're SUPER hot.. but I wonder if they'll like them :) Birds don't sense the heat of the peppers like we humanoids do :)

Kayak looooooooves any type of pepper. Carlisle doesn't like "wet and moisty" stuff but he will eat any dried pepper. Kayak normally gets bell peppers because they're my favorite :X I'm forced to share with her. Mmmmm fresh bell peppers. I'll sit with her and snack on it after I slice it up.

Thank you so much for all the information! This weekend I chopped up & froze kale, mustard greens, bell peppers, & hot peppers. Keen loved it all. Opi ignored it all, of course.

Pyro, my new baby sun conure
I haven't been able to get Pyro to eat any fresh foods except fresh coconut and grains. I'm beginning to think he doesn't like moist foods. This doesn't make sense to me though because he still loves his formula at least 3x a day. I was thinking of mashing some fruits and veggies and adding them to his formula. I'm not sure if this is a good idea though. If he doesn't like it, I dont want it to turn him off to his formula. I dont think I'll make a big deal out of fresh foods until he is off the formula.

Hey SunMommy! I cook Amigo a little oatmeal with a bite of smashed banana in the morning, he LOVES it! I'll add just a pinch of brn. sugar and a pinch of butter to it when it's done then let it cool enough for him to eat. He likes it kinda runny, so if it gets too thick I'll add water to make it the right consistency. He's going on 9yrs. old but still loves soft food!

Do you give it to him in a dish or a syringe? I am going to try this. Thanks!

I give it to him in a dish. I make it in the morning and he dances around on top of his cage waiting for it to be cool enough so's he can eat it.

SunMommy, I'd like to add that how I got on to him even liking oatmeal, (I had no clue), I was sitting in a rocker next to his cage one morning eating a bowl of oatmeal, when he came down the side of his cage, on to my chair, up my arm and stuck his face in my bowl of oatmeal which at that point became his bowl of oatmeal. Who'd of thunk?

I need to go to the store and buy some oatmeal. I dont have any because I dont normally eat it. I will let you know what happens once I get some for Pyro. Yesterday I tried giving him oranges with no luck. Then I mashed some up (it ended up being orange juice) and put it in a syringe to see if he would let me squirt it in his mouth. Nope...no luck there. In fact he's become so picky I tried giving him his formula in a different syringe than normal and he wouldnt let me come near him with it. He is still young, so I will keep trying new things. One day he will eat something new. He just eats his formula and pellets for now. Sometimes some grains, seeds, dried papaya and coconut. Thats all he's let me feed him so far.

Yeah i give my amazons fresh peppers that i row in the gargen, the hotter they are the more they like them. They eat less peppers in the off season mostly cause they are harder to come by. they are not only good for them though they also good at enhancin thier color.
