i have slowly been changing to using pellets im at about 90/10 with seeds but he always picks the seeds and i have not seen him eat pellets should i still do 100% pellets tommorow?

also i noticed someone say they feed theres pellets they have made soft by wetting them? i have just been giving them straight out of the bag is this ok?

nuts on zupreem fruit blend, but she also gets some seeds, fresh fruit an veg, cooked chicken, egg white, seeded bread and so on
she does not eat alot of pellets, reguardless of other stuff she gets or not, but i just think if she has a varied diet like i ensure my son gets, then she should be gettin a little of what ever her body needs, and its less of a battle ground

i use Zupreem fruit blend aswell and fresh fruit veg and i will still feed seed just not 100% like i was

It is concerning that you haven't seen the bird eat a pellet yet. Some say, go ahead, the bird won't let itself starve. But, I know of a case where that did happen so I am more cautious than that.

Yeah I haven't seen my Amazon eat one yet either. By this point (90/10) I knew my BCC was eating the pellets. I don't have the amazon to the that point yet though.

I also use Zupreem fruit flavor. May try something else for the zon though to see if he will at least try one.

I do not like wetting the pellets as I worry about them getting stuck in the crop for lack of proper moisture. Also as long as anyone feeds their bird seed they will eat it first. Ditch the seed.

My Nanday conure actually dips her pellets sometimes in the water, I assume to moisten them a bit. I'd say let the bird eat them dry or dip them itself. My other conure ate all of them dry.

I have one blue crown that will eat pellets and the other who is very reluctant to do so. Recently I tried a new method for trying to get my old, stubborn bird completely converted over to pellets + fruits & veggies and that was to used crushed Nutriberries with a high pellet content in her mix so that she can taste something sweet but still have the taste and texture of a pellet to help her become used to them. I started out with an equal mixture of seed, 2 kinds of pellets and Nutriberries. The seed has been totally phased out and we are about equal shares of pellets and Nutriberries at this point. I have started phasing them out slowly and it seems to be working with her. The other BCC never got any seed in her food and she is housed separately because she can be a little too dominant at times and I don't want to leave them together unsupervised so she never got any seed. Though she has been getting treated with the Nutriberries.

As a suggestion, watch your bird's weight if you have a scale during the conversion. It is a good way to make sure that they are not just pushing food around in their cups and making it look like they are eating. Tootsie needed to lose some weight to begin with and she has during this process but I certainly did not want for her to be shedding off the ounces too quickly.

i will certainly keep an eye out, going to change to all pellets today if i dont see him eating any i will just feed some seed later on as i have tons of it.

keep the seeds as treats lol, but once you make the switch stick to it, nut held out for a while, bless her subborn feathered bottom!!!

just make sure your bird eats before you put it to bed so to speak

If he's not eating at all, you might give seeds first thing in the morning, then take them away and give just pellets the rest of the day. Or give some seed every other day.

And yes, once you have the bird converted, I would not give seed at all anymore, except maybe a Nutriberry.

I myself am working on a 28 year old seed junkie. At least he's eating his vegetables and fruit and other good stuff. What I have noticed is that there are some large, natural colored pellets in his seed mix. He isn't eating them, but he does pick them up, chew off chunks and spit them out onto the floor of the cage. But, this makes me think I will be more likely to get him to eat a pellet that looks like those rather than the fruity Zupreem ones my conure is eating. So next stop is to find something that looks more like those and see if I can convert him to that. I don't really care if they eat different food as long as they are both on pellets.
