Conure names

I have been given the gift of 2 wonderful green cheeked conures who need names. Any suggestions?

Re: Conure names

Do you know if they are male/female?

Re: Conure names

If you don't know the genders I'd use something neutral.

I named my Nanday Rowdy because I didn't know her gender, but she sure was rowdy. To this day though people always think she is a male because they consider it a more male name.

I knew my BC was female before I took her home from the breeder. I didn't have a name yet, but on the way home we were listening to the radio. She liked the song "Riannon" by Fleetwood Mac. Well, I figured no one would be able to spell that (and perhaps I didn't either!) so I named her Briana instead. She also answered to Bri or Bri Bri, but called herself Bri.

Names will come. Sometimes it takes time for the right one.

Re: Conure names

Names will come to you after you live with them for a while. My cricket names himself as it sounded to me like he was saying that. Of course he was only 12 weeks old then and not talking.

Re: Conure names

Sometimes I name an animal by making a list of names and reading them out loud to the animal. If I get a favorable reaction to one, well, that becomes it's name!

Re: Conure names

I don't know the sex unfortunately and don't think it is worth the risk to find out. I am thinking about rhythm for one because he dances to the beat of the music on the radio. But not sure yet on the other one.

Re: Conure names

It's not actually risky these days to find out. They just sent a toenail clipping to the lab for DNA.

Re: Conure names

I think the dna test I had done was about $25? I just sent in a few plucked feathers.
