Male and female. Now what?

I have been wondering if my 2 green checks were male or female. Well today I saw them mating. Or at least I assume that is what they were doing. So now I don't know what to do. I'm not against the idea of breeding them but I don't really know what I'm doing. And is it going to be safe for them to breed every season? I don't want to separate them because they are so attached to one another. But I do not want to hurt them by letting them breed to often.

if they are old enough must be about 1 and half min but 2 years is better u first buy them a nest box give them more soft foods more healthier food and keep there cage clean thats all u could do. they will do the rest but if u want to mate them i would suggest getting some research done go on google or to a library doesnt matter just find a way to research on breeding ur birds u will learn lots of info and it will help ur birds incase anything goes wrong

4 Cockatiels 2 males Chicken Little & Charlie, 2 Females Chiquita and Sweet pea. Yellow Sided Green Cheek Conure -Franklin and our now tame, rescued feral Pigeon - Belle.
Just a note I've learned since birds have owned me...not JUST male/female's mate...sometimes male/male does too and hen/hen. So, just because you saw them mating, does not necessarily mean you have opposite sexed birds.

I have to male tiels and two female tiels. My two male tiels would be married if I let them as they bonded from the second they met and Charlie had been with his sister since hatching. He quickly ditched her for Chicken Little and I've since separated my two males and put my hens together.

Soo.....just a thought, you might NOT get any eggs :) However, if you do and they are fertile...then I guess you'll know for sure :D

When I saw them in the act. One tried to stop and move quickly. Almost like embarrassed, lol and they seemed to have trouble separating for a second . I don't know for sure but I wouldn't think that would happen with same sex birds would it? Also how long until I can expect eggs if they are male and female? And does one sex or the other present itself to the other. I know with dogs cats and livestock the female presents to the male for mating when in heat. But I don't know about birds. I would really appreciate any and all advice, i have tried to research it but really have not had much luck.

Lol, birds can be bashful.

If you want babies, you could look into making them a nest box.

Well, my Grey appeared to be presenting herself to my amazon yesterday. Thankfully they were both in their cages at that moment, as he seemed to get excited. I was not prepared to have 2 different species get interested in each other romantically!

u could go and dna test them if u want to be sure yes the females presents herself to the male buy lowering there back and putting there tail up look and see if one or ur birds is doing so and check to see whch one is the one on top then when they mate again check to see if it is the same or or if they switched if they switched there both the same sex

Rhythm always initiates it. Stands by trix side with tail in the air, chirping softly. With the rump on or at trix rump. After a minute trix raises its tail. There isn't a lot of on top or bottom. Its mostly beside each other. Rhythm may step on trix back for a second but not long at all. Sorry if that's too much info. I'm just really curious as to what is going on exactly.
