Hey everyone here knows I am new to parrots well today is my birthday so I was drifting around my local store getting some things to put up for my bird that I am waiting on with my spending money (how bad is that lol) and I met my first Green Cheeked Conure.

I have to say first I was surprised at the size of it, for some reason I had expected it to be bigger. I think it is because I have only met one other type which was a Sun Conure (beautiful bird) and it was bigger.

Anyway it was the sweetest little thing and I was so tempted to come home with it but I know I have that deposit already on my Pionus and everything but he was so darn cute!

I think my next bird will definately have to be a GCC! I can really see why the owners on this forum are so in love with them.

They are cute and a nice, little size for cuddling, aren't they? Although in my case, I could probably fall in love with pretty much one of everything, lol! And that's definitely true for conures. I think they are all pretty! I can just imagine how loud my house would be if it was filled with conures though!

I know!!! I met my first GCC about a month ago and was stunned. He fit perfectly in the palm of my hand and his little feet couldn't even curl all the way around my thumb (that didn't stop his little beak from tearing at my fingers though lol)! Even though he was half wild, I nearly paid the $300 for him that night...I'm still debating on going back and getting him but I want a proven cuddler to offset Con who doesn't care for cuddling. Plus, I'd rather get one from a breeder who knows what they're doing.

Haha. They are quite small. A little more bulkier than a cockatiel. They are pretty sweet though. Your Pionus will be quite a bit more "bulky." I think they have a simular body type to an Amazon. I have to agree with Roxy...I'm pretty sure I could fall for any species of parrot.

I know what you are saying. I find all GCC's to be NEARLY irresistable!

Our Franklin runs on the small side even for a green cheek. He's smaller than all I've seen since purchasing him. They say good things come in small packages and I have to say, it couldn't be more true than with Franklin. He's absolutely amazing.

He's our first and probably will be our only conure (only because we are over capacity with our current flock of 4 tiels and a pigeon, plus Franklin) And don't get me wrong, I love all our birds to pieces...but there just seems to be something a little bit extra with our Franklin.

And like Roxy and Missy mentioned....I fall in the "I love them ALL" column. There isn't a bird yet, that I've met that I haven't wanted to take home....lucky for me in my old age, I'm learning a little bit of restraint. :)

You are going to absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE your Pionus. :D

I too am owned by a GCC, Nakista, how may grams does your Franklin weigh. Maxx is also on the small size, he is between 65 and 66 grams every time I weigh him. I know others who have GCC's that are up to 78 grams.

If you decide to get one, keep in mind that there are lots of them on Craigslist being rehomed...

I love them. Almost every picture I see of one looks like it's smiling.

Wow, they are half the size of my Nanday then weight wise. She pulled in at 139 gm at the vet this fall. And she appears petite compared to many other Nandays I've seen.

Helitorian, I hear you on wanting a cuddle bug as well. I love Rowdy with all my heart but she is not a cuddler. My BCC was and made the perfect compliment to her. Merlin and Pete are fairly cuddly though, but they sure don't fit in the palm of your hand, lol! You arm can actually get tired from their weight, and then I have to switch them to the other arm. There are some advantages to smaller sized birds. Pete actually takes 2 hands to hold in a towel and it's still kind of hard because he squirms around.

My Cricket weighs in from 64 to 68 gm. depending on the time of day I get his wt. Yes they are truly tiny birds with a huge attitude.

Hey, hope you get to see this...I bought a scale today because I just HAD to know what my Frankie weighed since we got him.

I'm pleased to report that, he is a healthy happy whoppin' 62 grams!

Like I said...he's on the small side, even for a GCC. But could I love him more????
