Sorry for this but I must know, Last night Oscar my Blue Crown Conure just fell down off his perch and died on me. I've had him for over 15 years now and it hurts. He wasn't hurt, didn't have any dicharge, and had been eating just fine, is this common, I just need to know.

I'm so sorry to hear that. Sadly I would say this is not uncommon. Birds don't age like mammals do; they tend to just suddenly drop dead without much/any warning that way. I've seen a lot of birds die young for no apparent reason, too. So if it's any comfort, you have no reason to blame yourself.

It happened to my BCC, too. I'm nearly certain it was a stroke. I got her out of the cage and held her until she went, and only one side had movement. She probably died within 1 to 2 minutes.

I'm very sorry for your loss. It seems to hurt even worse when it wasn't expected.

That's exactly what happened, he died in my arms after 10 minutes, just wondering if I missed something?

My vet agreed with me that it sounded like a stroke or brain bleed. I didn't have a necropsy because I wasn't sure they could do birds, and buried her the next morning. Apparently they can do birds though if you want to have one done. She died on a Sunday night around 11pm. She seemed fine when I put her to bed that night and then I heard her fall off the perch. I knew it wasn't a night fright because she wasn't flapping around and ran over. As soon as I saw her I knew, but at least she died in my arms. She was much too young, but I guess at least I can say she was a very happy bird. I still miss her dearly. My new Grey reminds me so much of her though.

I am so very sorry for your loss! I've only had my Molly for four months and could not imagine losing her. Pain hurts but just remember how much joy he brought you!
