Trouble Talking?

Hello Everyone!
I hope everyone is having a good day. So I got a question my GCC is almost a year old now and he still isnt talking. Are others late bloomers? i talk to him everyday for hours but he still isnt talking. Ive had him since he was 3 months old.

Maybe try just one word first. "Hi" and "What" seem easy for them to learn. Keep saying that one over and over. I first taught Rowdy "hello", but "hi" is probably easier.

Congratulations on your Conure. I too have green cheek I love to pieces.

You should know that conures in general are NOT known for their talking ability, most really are NOT good talkers, their deep gravelly voices often very hard to understand. Males tend to be more willing to talk than females, we have a male and he is 10 1/2 months old and does say a few words.

I have a friend who has a female and has been owned by her for 8 years, and she's never said a word.

Soo...you just don't know.

Certainly - don't give up talking to your bird. I talk to my birds all the time. We have our conure, Franklin and 4 cockatiels - 2 females and 2 males. Both males talk, the females have never done anything but a simple chirp and a flock call when they are excited.

yes, I should mention I said a lot of other things to her besides "hello", lol! Another thing I do is use the same words and phrases and use them in context. In the morning I say "Hi, good morning!" and "Breakfast!" when I feed them. I tell them when I'm going to make lunch or dinner. I say "Goodnight" when I cover them at night. I tell them they are pretty, good girl or good boy. I ask, "Whatcha doin?" all the time. I always say, "I'll be right back" when I need to leave the room or leave the house for a short time. Rowdy has been saying it to me for years now when she sees me put on my shoes. Now Pete has picked up that one as well. All 3 are now saying "I love you." Rowdy has said that a long time, Pete picked it up quickly and now Merlin is saying it and today she said it exactly in Pete's voice, lol! If I hadn't been looking at her when she said it, I would have thought it was Pete.

I think you just need to consistantly use the same phrases for things, and I think they also tend to learn things that they understand or are important to them.

I would definitely check out Antoinette's site as her bird is quite a talker.

Maxx's first words were "nite, nite". I repeated this every night when I covered him up. He soon started saying it. I didn't understand him at first, but now his says it very clear.

LoL he probably sounded like a child stuttering

It takes them time to get it correct, they practice without us even noticing it.
When learning words and turning them into sentences... omg then the fun begins
It took Mishka almost 6 months to say Stevie is disgusting correctly
