I got a hawaiian print in blue.Very cute.Anyone here use flight suits? How did it work out training the bird to like it? These silly things are expensive too.
Im really looking forward to being able to take her out this summer with me.It will give her so much more to see and do.

A lot of people have them here that can probably advise. Rowdy mostly doesn't like to be touched and I've let her fly around the house for 11 years so I know she won't do a flight suit, lol! Good luck with it though and let us know how it goes. It sounds very cute!

Someone here will be along to help, but I bet you will need to introduce it in stages.

Rowdy chomped me hard enough to rip into an artery in my finger once! I had blood go spraying everywhere and I had my cat locked in the bathroom where all the bandages were. I needed to take her back to the vet for a checkup after she had an infection and she knew exactly where I was going to take her, the little brat! I had put the cat in there thinking I'd be able to let her out in a minute or two once Rowdy was in the carrier. Wrong! That's the hardest she has ever bitten me in nearly 12 years, but man oh man, she got me good!

I don't have a flight suit for Con but I do have an Aviator harness. You need to go really slow with introducing the bird to the harness. I bought my harness in November and we just now are getting to the point where I can put the loop over her head and the other under one wing. Birds need time to adjust to things and if you rush it, the bird may never get in the harness. So go very slow and give lots of treats and praise :)

I ordered one for Pixie but I am guessing it will take some time to get her used to it. Not sure when I will try it, probably just let her settle in for awhile first.

Why do you need a flight suit? I'm new to owning a conure and maybe I should order one?

It prevents them from being able to fly away if you want to take them outside or shopping or to the park, etc.

well I am getting one so I can (after bonding and settling in) take her more places with me or just to the park and such. I have visions of taking her with me on my dog's walk everyday (he is a Yorkie and doesn't go far). I plan on at least for now leaving her flight feathers intact (though that may change) and don't think I would feel comfortable taking her outside my door except in a carrier unless I had a way to ensure she wouldn't fly off or anything.

That's a very good idea. As many here can attest to, a flighted bird can easily be lost.

I still need to find that back pack carrier I saw for birds on Animal Planet a few months ago. Something like that could work for all my birds since they are such different sizes, and Rowdy would go in that. It was really nice, and had a perch in it. And I bet Merlin would feel "safer" in something like that with her blindness.

I am going to order one for my Lulu. I am still working hard to be her friend and when that time comes, I would like to get her used to it so I can take her more places.

Id be scared here to let our birds free flight. There are hawks and owls here, lots of them..When I start taking our Twitter out I will have to keep a close eye out...I just hope she will let me put the suit on her without shedding any blood.

Not only do I have a lot of hawks and owls, but also mosquitos carrying West Nile. I don't take my birds outside anymore and use the full spectrum lights instead. And weird winter that it's been, I saw a mosquito on my back door yesterday.

I'd be much too afraid to try free flighting. Sometimes a bird gets scared and flies very far very quickly and then you may not get it back :(

yeah me to I am already way to emotionally invested in her to risk her having an urge to fly off, it just takes the once. I can imagine how protective I will feel once she is here!

That's exactly what I was looking for. I need one big enough for Pete or Merlin, and I'm sure Rowdy can use it, too. Also with 3 different sized birds, it would only be one investment for me. I don't see Rowdy ever wearing a flight suit, and don't really want to buy 2 for the others. And the screening on those back packs would prevent mosquito issues.

Yes, which is why I'm hoping to never truly find out how hard Merlin or Pete can bite. Pete can crack open walnuts so I have some idea:eek:
