Conure nostril bleeding

Tonight my conure had blood coming from his nostril. He hasn't had any signs of illness and was dancing around like he was fine. He likes to get in the shower with me (I know I'm a weirdo) I noticed it after that. Also, my rats have had a respiratory infections and are on antibiotics and in the same small room as the birds. Can the birds catch this from rats? After I noticed this I got the rats out of their room and called my vet but they were gone for the day.
Also, my vet did suggest I keep a humidifier in the room since I have a space heater in there I keep forgetting to buy it. Could this be caused from the Air being dry? I had some powder for their water I forget what it's called -iv been using it on the rats but it's for birds so I gave him a pack of that :rainbow1:

The vet doesn't have an emergency number? If not, I would see if you can find another vet that does. Usually dry air causes itchiness among birds. I've never heard of a bleeding nose like we can get from dry air.

I don't know if birds can catch infections from rats or not, but it might be possible.

Good luck to you, and I hope you can get ahold of a vet.

As far as I know blood coming from anywhere on a bird is not normal.Try to get him to a vet ASAP.

I guess it was only a tiny amount of blood & from just one side. Is it possible that he has bumped his cere on something & just broke the skin a bit which caused the blood. Also mixed with water would make it look worse. Also he could have scratched inside his nose with his nail. My conures sometimes stick their toe nail up their nose & have a good old scratch. Looks funny.

If the bleeding stopped it should be fine but if it continues then you will have to go to the Vet to find the cause.

He does keep pulling up a door on his cage and dropping it, He could have hurt himself doing that.

I think you will find that is the cause. I have had that sort of thing happen a lot with my GCC'S. I have to clamp the door shut. Another thing mine do is rub their beaks up the bars of the cage.

Has it stopped bleeding now?

Yea it was just that little bit I whipped it off and it was fine. He just sat on his cage and bobbed his head and didn't care.

Ok, that's a relief! It does sound like maybe he bumped his cere with that door. You should clamp it shut just so he doesn't do anything worse to himself with it. And yes, they do stick their toenails into their nares. I've just never seen any of my birds bleed after doing that.

Yea. When I got him his cage had ties on it... Now I know why.
