Conure holding his throat?

Ever since I got my rose crowned conure, he has had a habit of standing and holding his throat. He does it when he's calm and resting, and he doesn't appear to be in distress. He moves his hand. It almost looks like's giving himself throat/cheek scratches.

I have touched that area with my hand during rubs and nothing seems amiss.

Any insight would be appreciated!

I would think that is exactly what he is doing, giving himself a massage. He is probably doing it because it feels good. I also know that conures absolutely love neck rubs.

I have noticed that Penny does the exact same thing with her neck/head area. She seems to enjoy it, so I haven't really been too worried about it.

My conure does the same thing. I think it just feels good and probably helps get the pin feathers that he can't reach.

My conure does it, too, only she uses a keyring on a chain. She uses it to preen new feathers, and every night she gives herself a through face and neck massage with it. My amazon does it with his foot. He also gives me this look like, "poor baby has to pet his own little face, won't you come do it for me?"

Con does this as well. I have some pics of her doing it where it looks like she's thinking really hard. I always know she's ready for bed when she holds her face.
