Green Cheek Conure dancing?

I went to Petco last night and I saw an adorable Green cheek conure and a adorable crimson bellied conure. The GCC started bobbing his head then did this weird dance (not really a dance but he was putting his wings around his head and bobbing his head and going back and forth sorta. Im bad at explaining so he probably did it differently) What does that mean? Was he happy or scared or what?
Also, are Crimson Bellied conures as loud as GCCs and just as easy? Because i think they are so pretty. (the one i saw at petco was a baby and looked like a CCC)

Re: Green Cheek Conure dancing?

Conures do bob and dance when they are happy and excited (and to music).

Crimson Bellies and Green Cheeks are very similar.

My green cheek conure, River, loves to dance! He will bounce up and down if I do it and even says "dance dance dance"

Re: Green Cheek Conure dancing?

Okay this is pretty off topic but, ive heard you shouldnt get parrots from pet stores. If he wasnt there for a long time (i went there about a week ago and he wasnt there so he probably just got there a couple days ago) is it fine to get them from pet stores?

Re: Green Cheek Conure dancing?

I put on music and the birds and I dance every day, lol! And yes, Rowdy loves when you bob to her, or even jump up and down for her.

Re: Green Cheek Conure dancing?

My understanding of purchasing birds at big box or chain pet stores is that you really don't know where they came from or how they were raised, and in what conditions. So: how they were handled, temperament, early behavior influence, early nutrition-- none of this do you really know. I've heard of people say that they have close relationships with the petco or petsmart near them and they have been told who the breeders are or at least are satisfied that they're reputable. I've also heard plenty of people say they would never buy a bird from a pet store but that their heart was stolen by a bird so they did it anyway. Often the people who work in the stores don't know anything about birds, and to they end up mistreated or neglected. The markup for birds at those places can be extraordinary at times, also.

All in all, it's no the birds' fault they they end up in a pet store, so it's up to you, and kudos to those that do it to give them a good home. But many feel like pet stores end up perpetuating the cycle of impulse-buying of parrots and the need to rehome, a generally traumatic cycle for any sentient creature.

Our green cheek conure loves to dance - especially to gangsta rap out of all things, lol.
