There is a sun conure and a jenday in a cage at my local pet store and she's selling them for somebody else! but the guy wants $1,000 for them i think thats WAAAY too much i could go and buy 2 sunnys for maximum $500 what do you guys think?? and is anybody a good negotiator? the lady says he will not go any lower and the cage is not in very good shape at all. i posted pics of the sunny in a different thread if your interested..

I think I would pass up that "deal". Maybe they'll realize that they're asking way too much and that nobody is going to pay that much when they can get babies from a breeder for less.

Well the conures are worth what you will pay, so if they really speak to you and you fall for them I would say try to haggle with them or just scoop them up. You cant put a price on happiness so if you really like them and they like you, go for it.

Pet stores here really mark up the birds. The last one I saw that blew my mind was a little green cheek for $595! So I can't say I'm too surprised. Any idea what age they are?

Pet stores always charge much more than breeders... The breeders want their price, and the pet stores want their profit, so you pay the breeders price and the pet shop's profit...

Go to a breeder...

That seems pricey. We just got our sun conure from a breeder, she cost us $350. We went to the pet store a couple days ago they have a baby sun for $700! That is DOUBLE what we paid for our JJ.

Ya i wanted to talk to him myself to let him no he's asking way to much the lady's only asking what the owner wants so idk and i dnt no how old they r tha sun has full coloring and the jenday every time i walk into the store she climbs on the cage thats closer to me and bobs her head and puts her head up against the bars for a nice scratch haha the lady came in and was like "don't let her getcha!" so im guessing she bites? i was looking at a breeder and they sell them for 250 weaned and less if not

When bying a perrot the cost is not the most important. Getting a healtgaranty for about 6 month and really love the bird is the most important. But of cause there is a limmit

I agree, the cost isn't the main factor in selecting where you get your baby from. It just worked out that our breeder was cheaper than anywhere else aroundish us (we had to drive an hour and a half to get our baby). But we also have a wonderful health guarantee and our baby has been well socialized and loved on.

Depending on your experience with birds it may be best to just wait and find a breeder who has some weaned babies it would probably be your best bet. Don't just jump on the first birds available just because their there, find the bird(s) that will best fit in with your situation. Trust me there will be no shortage of conures, lol.

That sounds like a ridiculous price to me.

I think you may have to haggle if you want to pay less. I'd try to talk to the guy, and tell him that he is asking way too much (mention how much breeders sell babies for). Tell him the expenses that you will have, since the cage is not adequate. Anything else you can think of, and then lowball him (lower than what you think you'll actually pay). If he's willing to haggle, he'll come down on his price a bit, and you guys can hopefully meet somewhere in the middle. I'm very shy about haggling, but I see my boyfriend do it all the time. lol. If he's not willing to budge, you can let him sit on it for a while, and then try again.
