How attached is your conure to you?

Guava, our GCC, is very attached to both me and my girlfriend. She must be with us at all times, and if not then at least see us at all times. As soon as we're out of her view, she starts peeping and calling. You could get tell that she is distressed if we're not in the same room. This is starting to concern me.

Last week we took her to my parents house for St. Patrick's day. We didn't want her to be home alone. She has a decent sized cage there for when she visits. My girlfriend and I left her there for just a few hours to grab a drink with our friends. My parents were home, and reported that she screamed and paced around in her cage until one of them sat next to her.

We do spend a lot of time with her, as we feel that we owe it to her. So when we're home, she's with us at all time. I realize, of course, that this is only contributing to the problem. Are all GCC this attached to their owners? We definitely spend a lot of time with her - several hours each day. But, we can't be with her 24/7 and the fact that she gets so distressed is really worrying me.

My male is attached to me and screams if I leave the room, but always coming back to the rescue is just encouraging it more. My female hardly ever makes noise and she only calls to be let out of her cage.

We don't always come to the rescue. But, we do the "flock call" thing while we're out of her sight. The noise isn't the issue, as her calls are fairly quiet. In fact, she's even adapted "Give me kiss" as her call. It's very cute.

My male screams beepbeep for his call. Soo much better than just screaming.
Just out of curiousity, how much time do you spend with her?

I work nights Monday through Thursday. I come home around noon on most of those days (except Wed when I get home at 9am). I give her fresh food then go to sleep until about 4pm. Her cage is in our bedroom, so she's next to me when I'm napping. Then my girlfriend comes home at about 4:30, at which point we take Guava out of her cage. Bed time is usually around 8pm or so. On the days that we go to the grocery store, we take her out at about 6pm. The weekends vary, but overall we try to spend at least half of the day with her - either the morning/afternoon or the evenings.

Well that seems like enough time, I spend all day with my pair and the male still screams when I leave, I think he has separation anxiety. I guess some birds like to be with people more than others.

Well we haven't had our sun for even a week yet so she really isn't bonded to us. Just more bonded to the fact of not wanting to be in her cage if someone's home. She's afraid she'll miss out on something I guess, lol.

Lucy is fairly bonded to me, she will be 1 next month. She doesn't talk so her calls are very loud high pitched screams.. She's just not a talker. I'll call back to her, usually I'll tell her "inside voice" and she still screams... at which point i'll grab a water bottle and she pipes down. I'm still trying to figure out how to keep her quiet. Usually I just take her with me wherever I go, but I don't give into her calls. I'll only come when she goes "peeppeep!!" so we're working on it :)

Oh my... My Midori is extremely attached to me. She never wants to be in her cage. I make her anyway, but most of the time unless she's eating, she will just pace the bottom and call to me. Spoiled rotten brat, lol! Luckily she luvs my 4 yr old, 8 r old, and husband. She is trying to talk. It seems like she is trying to say step up, esp when she wants out.
