Need some support

Gosh, guys - I usually am so thick skinned and objective with moody birds, but today I wasn't. Kitty was sweet but didn't want to cuddle or play with me and flew back every time I picked her up off her gym. Bode was outright ignoring me and then later turned monster. He was in what Remy calls 'demon mode.' I'm physically, unscathed but today these two really got to me I'm feeling like reject mommy. I know tomorrow is a new day and they will probably be sweeties with yesterday forgotten for them but shucks...some days having a wild animal has it's downsides!

Re: Need some support

A week and half ago I reached into Rosie's cage to see if she wanted to come out, and unfortunately I ignored her body language and she bit me. She was feeling hormonal and didn't want to come out. I had to let her bite me for a while until she calmed down, then I cued her to wave and rewarded her before giving her some alone time. Later she was in a better mood and wanted to be pet

Birds can be crazy sometimes but I don't let it get to me, sometimes my friends and I joke that it's like being in a abusive relationship(more for my friends then me)

Just remember we have our days too when we dont want anything to do with anyone. :-) Enjoy the break and make some toys or something.

Re: Need some support

I myself can go weeks without wanting to speak to anyone except my kids & pets. I know it doesn't lessen the rejection feeling. I too take things personally. My dog ran off for an hour when I was a kid & I cried the whole hour & kept repeating "If he loved me he wouldn't have chased that squirrel."

Sometimes when Mr. Precious is feeling aloof I will turn on music & dance & sing & pretend to ignore him right back. Pretty soon he's headbanging & spinning in circles on his perch.

Re: Need some support

*hugs* There are days when it sucks. And there ares days that are blasts. The best days are the ones we call "normal" or "average".

I know how you feel. Loki was supposed to be for me. Then he turned traitor for my husband, for several weeks. Then he turned traitor again. Now he's good with both of us. But he still has his days when he doesn't want to do much of anything or be bothered. I just keep in mind that some times, we all want time "to ourselves" for no apparent reason. Hang in there!

Re: Need some support

Merlin is currently doing the same with me, it's horrible to feel so rejected by your babies. He loves my other half if he wants attention. I was normally his go to gal, so I'm hoping this is just a phase and I get my cuddly, non nippy baby back soon.

Hang in there, it is tough xxx

Re: Need some support

Thank you for the kind words/support! It really is like being in an abusive relationship sometime...ESPECIALLY IN SPRING!!! We had a pretty good day today Bode is having some trouble, but I'm going to start another thread on his problem because it's really a different topic all together. The upside to having the wild lovebirds is I don't have high expectations for our interactions LOL I was so excited today when they were chirping at me.

I can't wait for spring to be over, Merlin is just being so mean to me for the most part. He's molting and hormones so he's the crankiest thing ever recently. Everything I do makes him lunge at me, I know I'm reading him right and if he gives me the signals then I will back off (but I don't want to be walked over...) he's sweet as a button for my other half at the moment and is only a mummysboy when he's tired. I know he doesn't hate me, he's just being a picky swine at the moment. It's very hurtful though (and not to mention my hands don't appreciate it!)

Roll on normal hormones and this molt to be over with! Wish there was a way I could speed it up for him. I'm giving him food that's supposed to help, he's got vitamins that are supposed to help with molting and I'm 'preening' him to try and help (although I don't think I'm very good at is as my illness gives me shakey hands hah!).

EURG. Can't wait to get my baby back.
