Sun Conure (Clifford), two budgies (Odin and Diana), and CAG (Bongo)
I was doing some yardwork this weekend and stopped to sit for a second (its hard work lol). Clifford screams when he sees me and I am not paying attention to him. all of the sudden this little sun came and landed on my front porch, looked at me then flew into the house to Clifford's cage.
um......
I guess he/she was attracted to his calls, and was STARVING. there was some apple on Clifford's playstand that he devoured in 14 seconds, so I gave him some pellets and other yummies to eat. At the moment I only have a very very small cage for him/her and there is NO WAY that I can keep it.
We have hung flyers around the hood and called all the vets nearby, but nothing. I suspect that someone just let it out because it is a very LOUD bird. Suns are all like that, but this one is constant. It has not stopped screaming. I am afraid someone abandoned it :-(
He/she is not cuddly, doesnt step up, and BITES. Maybe because he is scared, but I honestly think that this is its personality.
I do not know what to do. I want to keep it and give it a good home, But Clifford hates it and lunges at it and trys ti kill it.
Poor little thing all it needs is some tlc. But with Clifford, the budgies, Bongo coming home soon and vet bills, I just do not think I can take it on right now. I have Him in another room in case he is ill to avoid the others catching anything. If anoyne knows of any ideas to find his home, or anyone knows of any potential sun owners (that wouldnt mind working with the little guy) please let me know. I dont want to give him to just anyone, as he already has some serious personality issues that i think may be psycological.

thanks, ill try and get pics up this week.

I would try to get in touch with local rescues as well, including the county pound and any humane society and ASPCA that may be around just to let them know what you found. Also maybe call the police department to see if someone put in a report.

If you can't keep him while you search for the owner, you could try to see if one of the rescues nearby can. who knows where the bird came from or how far. I think there is also a 'lost parrot' website, or 'lost pet' website.

Does it have a band?

I find it so fascinating when people post these stories. I can't imagine a random tropical parrot showing up on my doorstep in Philadelphia! I would freak out! in a good way.

Wow!!

If you can't keep it (and it sounds like you can't), I'd go ahead and see if a local Rescue can take him/her. Sounds like they need a foster parent with a LOT of patience and experience to bring it around :( Poor little thing! And yeah, it could very well have been a case of abandonment, especially if they haven't made any effort to try and locate the bird (and judging by the sounds of what you've already done and turning up empty, they haven't). We all know our limits, and there's nothing wrong with that.

Good luck!!

American Bulldog Mix,
I wouldn't neccessarily post too much on craigslist. Just say a brightly colourred, small parrot was found. If you say a sun conure, it'd be way to easy for any one to say it's thiers'- after all it is aggressive, so you cant expect it to go flyiing into thier arms and they can't really describe it any better than a person who looks up a sun conure on the internet. Let them tell you what type of parrot thier missing and/ or the colours, is favourite treat, etc. Since there is no band you cant ask for the band number, and I doubt they have papers.

That's so rare to happen. So I'm told.

I hope you find the owners or find the bird a great home.

One of the SuperModerators (I think SpiritBird) posted a link to a website for lost & found parrots just yesterday or today. You can register & post exactly where you found it. If he/she can fly that well, who knows how far away he could have come from.

I dont want to post on craigslist. I'm afraid of it bad bad things happen there and the poor baby does not need to go somewhere worse. I dont know....I really want to keep him, but at the same time I dont want to be a bad parront to it or the other birds because I got in over my head. I am so sad because I know that I would love it as much as I could but what if I cant give it alll it neads, what if the others suffer because I dont have enough time

American Bulldog Mix,
Look for a rescue or drop it off at a shelter. Well, idk about a shelter, I would hate for it to sit there for a while. I say hold on to it for a while and if no one claims it offer a rehoming fee the same price as microchipping and have the owner microchip it at the vet with the money they wouldve given you. that way you know he wont get lost again and at least not for long.

I'd love to adopt it but know my dad would be angry with a bird that actually bit him on purpose and I'm unsure if I would have the time for the poor thing. I can offer plenty of love and space to fly and play as well as a sort of friend to chat with while I'm gone. If I had my own house, I'd just pay for you to send it to me. I really want to start helping birds that are put in this position. I'm happy you're trying so hard to give it a good home :)

He bites HARD and does not let go. of course, I really do think that he was away from home for a long while. He may calm down in a few days....

The microchip comment has me wondering; if there's no band, have you taken it somewhere to be scanned for a chip?

I just have a question.are you anywhere near that recent rash of storms and tornatos? Could he have come from an outside aviary which might explain the biting, aggresivness and screaming. and by the way that idea of having someone call to identfy type of bird they have lost is a very good idea. I also see how torn you are if you can'y find the owner. I would be too. Alison and sweetie pie:D

But here in Oklahoma between april and july there is a bad storm everyday!!! someone from another forum has found an add for a lost conure posted on 4/9. I have asked them to e-mail me back with a better description. fingers crossed.
