Hello All,

What size harness would you recommend for a Sun Conure? Petite or small?

Petite Aviator Harness for birds weighing between 75-110 grams or 2.6 - 3.9 oz: Large parakeets, small indian ringnecks, cockatiels, small conures (green cheeks, brown throat), small doves, small quaker parrots

or

Small Aviator Harness for birds weighing between 190 - 425 grams or 6.7 - 15 oz: Small to medium-sized Amazon parrots (blue fronted, lilac crowns, orange winged), small african grey parrots (timneh, small congo greys), yellow collared macaws, small cockatoos (goffins, lesser sulfur, major mitchell, galah), large parakeets (alexandrines, pionus); small eclectuses

I'm thinking petite? Are suns about the same size a green cheeks?

Thanks!

My GCC is only 67 Grams, which my Vet says is average. There isn't a harness small enough for a GCC, in all reality.

For what purpose are you planning to use the harness? Could a bird carrier work just as well? I'm not sure if even the Petite would fit a Sun very well, I've been hearing from people who've owned varieties of GCC's and Sun's that they're just too little for harnesses to work properly. We have a Celltei backpack/shoulder carrier that we put Loki in when we want to take him places and if we're just putting him outside to enjoy sunshine and fresh air, then we put him inside a travel cage. Occasionally we will just hold him on us when we go outside, but that's very very rare, and his wings are clipped so that he can only glide down, not gain any height whatsoever.

My budgie can wear a harness. :)

etcetc.

But I'd recommend a carrier unless you're super intent on having him flying. I have a travel cage for Merlin as he outright hates his harness. He loves being in the park playing in his cage though :)

&I have the extra small one for Merlin, in black. I got the flight line and everything but he just hates it. eurg. :(

Katherine, we plan on taking him out to the park so we were considering a harness or a carrier. I'm leaning more towards the carrier because I'm afraid the harness will cause Boomer distress or it might fail, or a dog might lunge at him... scary thoughts.

To those with carriers, will they enjoy the outdoors as much?

Ps. Cute pics, Mayden!

Mayden - I think that's great, but I've never seen them and I wouldn't even attempt to put a harness on Loki. Maybe that's just my personal preference. My Vet also said she doesn't recommend them for the smaller birds because it's harder to get the fitted properly compared to putting them on a Too.

I have a Celltei Pak-O-Bird and my guys LOVE it. We took Sugar down to the beach and she was having an absolute blast in the sunshine. I carried her on my back and she seemed quite comfortable, which for her is a BIG deal. It keeps them protected from things like dogs, other birds (such as hawks), kids, etc. If they lunge or go for the carrier, the bird has that barrier. Not so with a harness. You can also protect them from the elements if need be, seeing as all the sides have protective covers that can be rolled up allowing sunlight and such in, or rolled down and fastened to protect them from wind, rain and you can even get a fleece covering to protect in the winter time for those who live in colder climates.

I've often taken Loki outside in it and he always has a blast, even if he's just in it and sitting on our front porch.
