Beak Tapping?

My conure does this too! I think it is their way of meaning they are happy and content with their cage and surroundings

It's weird, I could hear him doing it the first night I brought him home and I could tell he wasn't quite comfortable yet.
He'll also rub his beak along the perch he's standing on when I get close and talk to him.
Wondering if anyone else knows what this means or has any ideas?

Birds feel with their beak and it is filled with nerve endings. Side note: That's why it's not recommended for the inexperienced to file a beak.
Sometimes they tap their beak because the like the sounds or the object may reverberate. Sometimes they will "scrub" their beak on a perch to clean it of debris or even to file off old flaky material. My Molly enjoys running around my desk while having her beak pressed against the desk.

Guava taps her beak in a head-banging fashion when she's listening to hardcore gangsta rap.
Took me a bit to find this thread again. I couldn't remember if it was good or not cause Hiccup does it to me when she's on my shoulders so I was hoping it was a good thing, as for the beak wiping, she does that to me to. She loves using my shirt as a napkin, but that I sort of bring on myself because I clean her beak if it's dirty

Parent's have, I baby sit a blue crown conure.
My husband and I adopted a rescue blue and gold macaw.
Our blue crown conure makes a game out of tapping. He will start to tap a pattern, and wait for us to do the same. We go back and forth tapping patterns on various sufaces. He can hold interest in this game longer than a toddler will play peek a boo, forever. Sometimes he plucks his cage bars to make noise or bangs his toys together.
If I pretend to play the drums on the table his eyes get all flashy with excitement, and he will tap up a storm or dance then laugh.

my Oscar rubs his beak up and down on the cage bars, i think its to get my attention, or sometimes when hes frustrated.

Rosie = Rescued Pineapple GCC,
Rusty = bought Cinnamon GCC,
Scooter = bought Normal GCC,
Tybbi MacGuyver = Rescued Blue Crown Conure
Rusty does it when he wants attention from me as well...
Rosie usually hangs upside down from the cage ceiling or does a dozen somersaults...
Scooter is the "prim and proper" bird and just stares...
I still have to figure out my blue crown's antics, but - yeah - these BCCs are highly intelligent indeed. Over the course of this first week, with a little solid training, he's easier to pick up... he's figured me out quickly, which is why I have to act very cagily with treats. He will figure out when I'm not paying attention (think 80% of the time) and grabs for the entire millet sprig before I can do anything about it. It's really a riot...
If he's really good I'll let him keep the whole thing and pig out...

Our kitchen table has this kind of ditch thing around the edges, i'm not sure what it is but it's for decoration. Anyway, Bandit will position his beak in this little ditch and then run along the table. It's hilarious to watch. He looks like a little race car XD

My GC does it on everything she loves, especially my hands. She just it like a jackhammer until a little bit of vomit comes out which she then eats. I guess it's called tidbiting, she's trying to feed me. She also tries to "feed" her favorite swing and ball. It's a good thing, it seems to come from an onrush of love and happiness.

Is this the same for an eclecuts? My male eclectus is doing the same thing and I just want to make sure it's not a negative response to something.

Frootie loves to run along a towel with her beak just after a bath and always wipes her beak clean after a good feed. When in her cage, she has started to run her beak back and forth on the bars - think she likes the sound.

My male ekkie is always tapping things with his beak, and rubbing it on everything..I think it is normal
