Five year old sun conure

I have two smaller conures right now and have an empty cage, and have always wanted a slightly larger bird (although not one that would outlive me). I have located what appears to be a lovely female sun conure about an hour and a half from me and I was thinking of taking my birds up there to meet her (through the cage, of course).

Should I have any concerns about her being 5? I do not mind taking an older bird, as long as it has decent manners - in fact I prefer it (never have been one for babies). And are there any questions I should be asking, considering that I will only be able to meet her once before I decide? Her pricetag of $250 also makes me a bit suspicious (they start at $500 around these parts, but I guess she is older and not located in a big city). They have a baby and can no longer make time for her :(

The seller says she is very tame and affectionate with him and gets along pretty well with other people once she gets to know them. She has not been around other birds for a long while.

It makes me a bit nervous potentially buying her, only meeting her once, especially because I want all the birds to get along eventually (I am fine with some work-through time after quarantine of course, but I do not want them to not even be able to be in the same room). I knew with my current two right away that it would be fine.

Any advice?

Thanks!

I don't think you need to worry about her being 5, I adopted my CAG in January, and she is 11 years old. I wouldn't recommend taking your other birds to meet this bird, that would kind of defeat the purpose of a quarantine.

Yeah, I have been on the fence about this, but since they will not be in physical contact with each other, and the initial "through the cages" meeting time would be brief, I was hoping that the risk of transmitting an airborne disease would be slim.

Just because you have an empty cage is not a good reason to get yet another bird.

Yet another??? Gee whiz, I have two! I am assuming you are being facetious, but I most assuredly have reasons beyond "empty cage" for wanting to add to my flock. Suffice it to say, there is room in my life, and my conures' lives, for another bird.

I think that is great you have the love and time for another bird : ) I love Sun conures, they are so pretty!
If you get her hopefully they will all get along but you never know. My TAG and my GCC get along great , but when my Moms GCC comes over to play he charges my TAG and tries to bite him. So I always have to put the GCCS in another room to play.

Thanks! I know, they are sooo lovely. And I live in a house in the country so she can scream and shout all she wants (within reason, of course, as I want to keep my eardrums intact).

If they never get along we will manage, of course. And we will have many years together, hopefully, so who knows how they will be together years down the road.
