hello,

i have two yellow bellied green cheek conures and my fiancee called me into the kitchen to see the two what we believe to be mating. Im not exactly sure if they were but im also not sure what gender the two of them are.. How long exactly do i need to wait to see iif she lays eggs? then how long do i have to wait to see if they hatch? then what do i need to do to get them their licences so their legal? Im a new bird owner due to my fiancees mother. Id really appriciate it if i could get some information on it. thank you!!!

If you don't know anything about breeding I suggest you don't breed them, it is a lot harder than setting up a pair and letting them raise chicks. What if something goes wrong and you have to pull the chicks and feed them every half hour, do you have that kind of time. Then once they are old enough do you have another cage to keep them in? What if she gets eggbound? That's only if they are male and female, if they are she should lay about 7-10 days after mating.

well im not intentionally breeding them. i had gotten one as a "pet" for the other, a friend so she wouldnt be lonely when i wasnt around to play with her. i dont even know how to feed them by hand but my mother in law and fiancee do. and how old do they need be to move them to another cage. i have quite a few in the house. what in the world is eggbound??? and ill be waiting and watching for the next days to see in she lays aggs at all.

I dont mean to sound rude but if you dont know what eggbound is you need to separate the pair right now and do not put them back together until you know more. Eggbound is when the female is unable to pass the egg so it gets stuck in her. This is a life threatening condition and if you dont take the female to the vet right away she will die. The babies get moved to a weaning cage as soon as they start wanting to come out of the brooder, thats if you are handfeeding them. Or if you let the parents raise the chicks you move them to a cage as soon as the parents wean them. But like I said since you dont know anything about breeding or handfeeding you need to separate them and keep the cages near each other or you need to give them to someone who knows how to breed and keep the birds alive.
