I am a future green cheek owner. I live in an apartment and have had small birds in the past. I currently own a lineolated. A few years ago I had a quaker parrot and loved her very much. My mother gave the bird to a new home, but thats a different story. My quaker would always do her morning calls as loudly as she could for about 4 hours at sunrise. I slept in the same room as her and had to go out to the couch every morning at 6am to continue sleep. She was very loud.
Anyways> im researching ways to deter morning screams until later in the day. My apartment is facing away from the sun, is very shaded by trees, and little light comes through the blinds in the morning. I'm hoping because of this I can create my own "sunrise" later in the day so my new baby doesnt wake up the neighbors. My Lineolated parakeet has a severe vitimin dificiency and has a UV light above his cage. His morning calls start when the light comes on at 11am.
Can I teach my new birdy to make his/her calls when this light comes on as well? Their cages will be next to each other. Should I start by covering the cage until 11am or will the light be sufficient? Will my linnie help in teaching this behavior?

ok first you mentioned you had a quaker earlier that had to be rehomed - if you haven't already done so you need to think really hard about why it had to be rehomed and for whatever reason not expect your green cheek to be any different. Yes they are generally quieter, but what if you don't get one of the quiet ones? I'm not coming down on you, but any time someone has had to rehome a bird they need to make sure they've learned and aren't going to let it happen again - (unless extreeme circumstances like death in family and such)

It was not my choice to have the bird rehomed, and out of all the birds I have owned, it was the only one to have been rehomed. At the time I was young and living with my mother, and if mom doesnt like something she can force me to get rid of it. She did find a very loving home for Koko however.
