Is my conure sick?

Hello,

My conure has been pooping large amounts of liquid in the last day. Every time he poops it's mostly just liquid with some feces every now and then.

He is acting completely normal, and still eats and drinks all of his food. He sings and does everything else he would normally do.

He does scratch under his beak or put his beak in his chest to scratch often, but he's been doing that for a long time and I think it's normal.

Should I be concerned? How long can I wait before I need to take him to an avian vet? They are located pretty far from here.

Their poops vary a lot with what they eat. If mine eats grapes or something liquidy, their poops are almost water. If they eat blackberries, their poops are dark red/purple. If it makes sense with what he's eating, and doesn't smell funky, you're fine.

Have you changed his diet recently?
If so that could be the reason, or as mentioned above, has the bird been given various fruits.
If none of the above, I would certainly get the bird to a vet a.s.a.p.
Please keep us posted

He's been having the same amount of fruits, but I guess they have been a little more assorted. I did have a problem with the air conditioner where it was a lot more warm then usual in the house for a day, could that have gotten him sick?

Either way, he pooped fine just now, so thank you all for the help!

One more question, he seems to be using one of his toys to hold his beak straight up while he scratches under his beak for as long as he wants. He scratches under his beak, around his head, under his eye. He keeps his eyes closed while he does this vigorous scratching. Is something irritating him? If I distract him he stops instantly. I guess if he gets bored at all he starts scratching all over his face and his chest with his beak. He's a year old.

Once again thanks for the replies. He did poop normal just now, I will keep watching his poop to ensure it stays the same. Do birds bodies, when they happen to get sick, tend to fix themselves in a day or so if it's nothing major? He pooped liquid atleast half the day yesterday.

Okay, one more update.

He's been pooping separate, it's liquidy with the feces being very spread out and separated. Kind of looks like diareia. I will be taking him to the vet first thing tomorrow, but it's been a few days that he's been in this condition. He kind of also smells bad now. Should I do something for the night?

His poop smells bad. It seems that sometimes his poop looks normal and sometimes it's all spread out and liquidy. He's acting COMPLETELY normal. I mean he looks more happy then he normally is.

Do I need to take him to the vet if he's acting completely normal? His poop smells bad and is seperated but it's not as liquidy anymore. It's just spread out.

It's really hard to tell what could be wrong without seeing the bird and his/her diet. I would probably be a little concerned about that constant scratching at least. I think the only way you can feel safe and sure is to go to the vets. A bird can pretend to be fine until it's too late for the vet to do anything.

Really hoping your baby is a-okay!

Okay, he is still pooping liquid but the vet office didn't have the doctor in today. They told me to give him canned pumpkins to see if those would help. Is there anything else I can give him? I've also been told cooked white rice and peanut butter will help.

Pumpkin is great....it sure works for dogs. Helps with their anal glands too.
That is a very good choice.
