Corn Cob Litter - I've just read that bacteria can breed in it like crazy. But if it's separated by a grille that the bird can't get at, does it make the litter any safer?
In the past, I used corn cob litter from Petco that also acted like an odor eliminator but I've switched to unscented. There was no harm to the birds, but it saved money in the process.
If, with the grate in the way, the corn cob litter is still a big danger re: bacteria, should one then move to aspen or other wood shavings? Or just use paper towels or newspapers? There's a reason for a newspaper subscription...
