Does anyone know if poison ivy is bad for birds? We cut down a large sycamore tree because of danger to it falling on the house it was so tall.
I wanted to make a tree stand with part of it.

Problem is it is laying in a poison ivy patch. A big one. Is it dangerous for birds? How can I clean it or would vinegar and water do the trick as expressed by someone in a previous post? My husband is very allergic to it but I have never had it. I really don't want to tempt fate either LOL.

Any ideas would be welcomed .

To be on the safe side, I would not use any wood that's been in poison ivy. It makes me miserable and I don't want to subject my bird to that, even if it's accidental. After doing some research online, it looks like poison ivy is toxic.

I was told poison ivy was actually good for birds. Humans are the only animals that can contract the virus that causes symptoms like itching, everything else is immune to it.

Mi Amigo has never had a reaction. I don't know if he eats it, but, I have seen him land in it. Knowing THIS bird, Amigo, the way I do, I would guess,,,you're bird is safe. I can say this because Amigo tastes everything he touches.

I know goats and other animals eat it. I have read it is only toxic to humans.
Of course getting the wood from around it the oil can live on the tree and getting it from the top of the pile might work where it hasn't actually contacted the ground. Just don't want to get it on us ....LOL I will have to go access the situation again. Thanks for your replies.
