Good evening,

As you guys might remember me, I'm the one who ended up receiving an unweaned baby Senny as a gift and came on here asking for help. Thankfully Icywolf stepped in and helped me out.

Well today due to construction work my office was closed and I was working from home and decided to take advantage of it and go for a run. To my disbelief about two to three blocks away from my home some teenage punk kid was in his front porch twirling around a closed plastic garbage bag with a bird inside it. I ran up to the yard opened the screen door and intervened, the father came out along with the mother and things began to snowball. After exchanging verbal jabs he said who care it's just a stupid bird.To which I replied i'm sure the SPCA would care how about a give them a call. Seeing the poor bird on the ground still dazed and remembering how overwhelmed and how helpful the bird community on this forum was I offered to buy him. The father refused but the mother said intervened and said no one takes care of him let him buy it, I had no clue what type of bird it was my best guess was a pionus or a conure because of the blueish head. To make a long story short his now with me, was checked out by the vet and treated for dehydration. Doc said his a blue crown conure that he is a little underweight and was dangerously dehydrated but otherwise seems to be ok, but to be sure he ordered a dropping exam.

I have placed him in the cage I was preparing for my Seny and letting him settle in. He was extremely skittish at first but I been talking to him and reading to him/her in front of the cage and seems to have settled down. I tried to touch him but he freak out so I guess I will take my time with him and wait until he trust me.

So yea I now will be watching over this guy from now on. I don't know if he will stay with me but I will not make any decisions until he recovers.

I am so glad you were able to rescue this poor guy. Blue Crown Conures are wonderful parrots! I am sure it will take time to gain his trust but with time he will be a great little fid! Good job on rescuing him!!!

You know people just continue to amaze me as well. Last night on the news..someone in our city and it is not a large city cut a dog in several places deep into the muscle, pulled its tongue out and taped its mouth shut with duct tape. It's tongue was swollen so badly when a lady found it and took it to the vet. It looked like a shoe hanging out of its mouth. They were able to fix it up and they think they will be able to save the entire tongue.
It is just sickening and if they catch that person he deserves something just as atrocious as he gave that dog. What is wrong with people anymore do they not have a conscience or a heart?

Wow how lucky you were off that day and decided to go out! And not only that but you were preparing a (second?) cage for your current fid. Conditions were all perfect to save this poor baby. I'm really thrilled that you stepped into the fire to save this birdy!

I don't understand how someone would get into their minds to spend that kind of money on an EXOTIC animal, then not bother to research or even protect such a creature... You have save a little of my faith in humanity.

Holy Cow!!! Sick people out there!!! Makes me sick to my stomach thinking about the poor animals we don't come across like you just did. Sheer luck for that little guy!!! Glad to know he is now safe. Thanks to you! Some people don't dare to get into a possible brawl over an abused animal..... :(

This made me want to track down that kid and sheke him in a bag. I'm so glad you saved the little guy! I bet he'll warm up to you once he realizes you won't throw him in a bag... And where are the photos?! Ahem, you do know they're mandatory?
Just kidding. ;)
Keep us posted!

That is insane... I still think you should report them for animal cruelty regardless. You have the vet check as a record, so you can use that as evidence.

I'm so glad that you rescued the little guy. It just sickens me what people do to animals - and each other! Well done on your rescue. It takes a lot to intervene for people, particularly three-against-one, but I'm sure the little guy is thankful for it.

Keep a close eye on him (her?); it may take a while before s/he opens up to you, but at least it won't have to experience that torment again.

---
Side note: Keep an eye on your security precautions incase anyone followed you home and/or the kid decides to break in and "take back" the bird. And as said before, I'd still lodge a report about it. Even if no legal action can't be taken, at least if there is police record and the kid grows up to have a criminal record, they can see that this wasn't the first time.

I can't think of any, i'm terrible with names. I think i'm going to get him DNA sexed then start randomly saying names until I get a reaction out of him. Every time I say hello in a high pitch voice his pupils dilate, I assume this is good but I might be wrong.

Alisana I had considered reporting it but judging by the way the father acted it doesn't seem like this kid ever had a shot. If that would have been my father and he caught me doing anything like that you better believe I would have been in serious trouble.Hopefully after our little confrontation he might have learned something about treating living things with respect him and his father.

Poor little guy! I'm so glad you were able to save him!

I would still file a police report for animal cruelty! The parents are just as much responsible as that horrible kid! IMO, they should all go to jail, and never be allowed to have animals again. :-(

RSPCA/SPCA can enforce a [requirement/law - can't think of right word] on people convicted of animal cruelty that prevents them from having animals.

May be worth reporting, regardless. My concern is that the kid just finds another animal to torment, and may do it away from the public eye =\

That's absolutely crazy....Those people needs to be reported for animal abuse!!!!!!

Thank you for rescuing him out of those pathetic idiots, horrible parents raise horrible kids, the parents are a lot to be blamed for what their kid was doing....
