I want to make chichi some toys he will love. I have all kinds of beads, and wooden spools, wooden beads etc. I've been making handing chew toys and he loves them. But I wanted to see what homemade toys I can make that have treats hidden in them, paper shredding toys, etc that y'all use. I know about the phone book. But that's about it. :p what toys have you made, do your fids love the most??

Anything with cardboard. It's readily available, and for the most part doesn't make a mess like they do when chewing wood.

I have gotten enough splinters lol

I want to know the same thing, Lovelyloribeth. I've been stuffing toilet roll middles with paper and card with a few treats tucked inside. Now I've read there's a problem with the glue and we shouldn't give them to our birds. How about cereal boxes? I save the shreddings from the day before and use them again to stuff into cardboard rolls or I've also folded a piece of card, made a couple of holes in the ends and tied with a short piece of twine, and stuffed that. I bought corn leaf chews sold for small animals and Gwynn likes shredding those and the debris is still re-usable for another go or two. I tried stuffing sheddable bits and dried fruit into a plastic toy. He loved it, spent ages pulling it all out then set about dismantling the toy. I wrap his apple pieces in screws of paper and pile them into a container. I saw a great idea for using a plastic bottle, making holes to push straws through, so the straws have to be pulled out to let the treat fall down to where it can be reached. There are other threads on the subject so I'm off for another read.

Yeah I've read a lot of ideas, but nothing strikes my fancy I guess. I think I MIT try a cereal box. I've heard if you make them little forts of cardboard boxes they love them. Stick toys in there and treats etc.

Scooter loves toilet paper rolls. Some brands glue the paper to the paper and not to the roll, and I try to save up those. I also bought some small mailing tubes on Amazon, but I need to cut those down to size for him. Here is a video I made a while back of him playing with one.

I also have bought some toy parts online and I can recycle the plastic and metal bits into different toys. He's particularly fond of balsa wood, which lasts about two seconds, but he won't really bother to chew the harder woods.

For foraging, the best success I have had is with cardboard boxes. I also occasionally let him have almost empty Kleenex boxes -- I get the ones made from recycled materials with just plain tissue, no lotion or antiviral stuff. And I pull out the plastic if there is any.

He also really really loves throwing around empty pill bottles. I put a couple of beads in clean empty prescription bottles and he loves throwing those around. Something about orange brings out the rowdy in him and orange and rattley is even more enticing.

Hmm.... Try going directly to You Tube directly. Type in "Scooter the Cone Head" or "jewelrybydeborah" in the search box and you should be able to find it... now that I've totally hijacked your thread! Sorry about that!

Seems to be related to the sound track. I am trying to put up a version without it. See if that works for you. It's still processing now.

I went to michaels this past weekend looking for fold boxes, I found cardboard chinese boxes, you just dont use the metal hanger. I put banana chips in my eclectus because this is her favorite treat. I also put chop sticks paper shreds and a wooden block.. she honestly rips it up because she knows i hide her chips at the bottom...

For my conure i do the same but put walnut or almond with apple pieces, he tends to tear it up faster LOL i also put Popsicle sticks, ice cream wooden spoons , paper shreds, finger traps round wooden balls with a hole drilled through Ill stick a piece of dehydrated apple in it.

I made some of these

I used one of those paper cup carriers, cut it into sections, and strung together. I stuffed the inside with crinkle paper, nutriberries, dry pasta, and banana chips.

Hmm I take those cup holder with four pockets to hold drinks you get from McDonalds, Taco Bell, etc.,cut them in half, (so there are two cup holder 'pockets on each piece, and string then together. Ugh this is so hard to explain without pictures. :(

Here us a link to the cup holders. I'm on my iPhone so can't upload pictures right now. Any way, once these are face to face I string then together and stuff treats, paper, and Popsicle sticks in the spaces. As soon as I get home I'll take pics. I hope I'm explaining that ok...
