Lola the Sun Conure & Mimi the Nanday Conure
Hi Guys!

I was wondering if I could some opinions on these guys as pets, for those that have them, have had them or know someone who has one. :)

I have my own two conures, a sun and nanday, but my mum has fallen in love with them since having them and really wants a bird of "her own", since my two have only bonded to me. After showing her some birds I think she'd like, she's completely fallen inlove with the Crimson Bellied Conures and wants to get one. We've been watching videos and reading about them but they don't seem all too common, it appears more people are interested in green cheeks.

Does anyone own one of these cuties? They seem to almost identical to green cheeks, personality wise, but would love some input. :)

Thanks!

I own a pair. They do resemble the Green Cheek as far as size goes. Their "voice" is lower pitched, more guttural I find. Mine are not as bossy as the GCC, meaning they don't go after the other species quite as much. They are sweet birds. That is just my experience with my 2, hopefully someone else will give you some more insight.

PS: They remind me a bit of the Sun. But less loud....much less :)

They sound like cuties! Are they very cuddly?

Even though Mimi (my nanday) is super bonded to me, she still allows mum to cuddle her, and mum loves it.

I have a crimson bellied conure and she is wonderful! I agree with Echo. They do sort of remind me of sun conures as far as personality (but not nearly as loud). In general, they're slightly larger than green cheeks, and have more laid back personalities. Penny is definitely a sweet little bird. Unlike most green cheeks, she really isn't nippy at all and she loves to just hang out with me.

She is somewhat cuddly, although not quite as much as some other conures I've seen. She definitely likes having her head scratched and she'll occasionally cuddle up under my chin while I'm watching tv. Let me know if you have any other specific personality questions and I'll try to help you out as much as possible. :D

Thanks! Penny sounds like a cutie, too. :) She reminds me of my Lola, Lola isn't as cuddly as a lot of sun conures I know, but loves to just be with you or sit on your shoulder or under your chin. She likes the odd head scratch or under the wing scratch but other then that, she isn't anywhere near as cuddly as Mimi. Mimi loves to be smooshed and cuddled everywhere for long amounts of time, haha.

Is yours very fussy when it comes to food? Does she mimic any sounds or words?

My mum is pretty set on a male, even tho my two are girls, if that makes a difference.

Penny actually isn't very fussy at all with food. When I first got her, it only took me about 3 days to switch her over to a new brand of pellets. She LOVES her veggies and is usually willing to try new things. There are only a couple things I've tried to give her that she really didn't like. She does mimic sounds and even talks a little bit. She likes to imitate the microwave and she whistles up a storm sometimes. She's pretty shy when it comes to talking, but she does have a few different words she says, such as 'tickle', 'step up', and 'peekaboo'.

As far as the male vs. female thing, I can't really help you there. I've never had a DNA test done on Penny, so I'm not 100% sure she's a female. At this point, I don't plan on ever getting her tested, because it would be really hard for me to change her name and call her "him", Haha :D.

Oh that's good she's not fussy. :) My sun conure doens't mimic any sounds or words at all, but my nanday does.

My first bird was a lorikeet and "he" was never DNA'd... I didn't want to do it either because I didn't want him to really be a girl and have to think of a new name, haha.

Ignorance is bliss!

From what I've heard about them, they sound wonderful and they certainly look wonderful. If I wanted another small conure, I'd probably look for one for FWIW, but I have never actually met one.

Yes, I think their colours are amazing as well! They look like they're wearing little red vests. :)
