I am a new owner of a beautiful fancy green cheek conure named kiwi =)
okay so i adore my conure Kiwi, but sometimes (actually quite a lot of the time), she'll just sit there and squack at me really loudly. i let her out of her cage as much as i can cuz ik it makes her happy, but i can't do that all the time. she doesn't like having her cage covered, she just squacks more, so does anyone have any suggestions as to how i can help her to calm down a little bit? :grey::grey::yellow1::yellow1::white1::white1:

1 nanday conure Black Jack, 1 Brotogeris parakeet Whiff, 1 ring neck dove Eliza, and 6 society finches (3 are tame). RIP my parent pairs of societies and my little gouldian finches
when she screams, completely ignore it, dont give her attention when she screams. when she turn around. when she makes a quiet noise, or is quiet, turn around and praise her. keep doing this untill she gets the idea that only quiet noises will get your attention. make sure she has plenty of fun toys to play with in her cage. you could also put a puzzle toy or nutriberry in to keep her entertained and wanting to go to her cage. i hope this helped and good luck :)

It is not necessary to cover a birds cage at night.
To elaborate on that, I would not cover if you have a quiet and dark room where the bird can sleep. If you have any light in the room, a cover might be a good idea. We recently got Lucy one and I think she is sleeping much better than before.

Kiyomi - sun conure
Covering the cage when she can hear that you are up and around isn't going to quiet her, it will just frustrate her more. She IS asking for attention when she knows you are around. If you are working or whatever right beside her, she doesn't understand that you are too busy right then.

I really don't have this problem with Kiyomi, but then again I got her from an excellent breeder who hand-raised her and taught her about quiet snuggle time. Now my bird will sit on my shoulder while I'm working without any problems. Sometimes she gets bored with that and wants direct interaction, but if I take a break for 10 minutes to do that it is enough for her to be content to observe from my shoulder or the top of her cage.. whatever she feels like doing that day. Sometimes she just wants to climb in my shirt and be close and normally goes to sleep like that.

Not that I have problems with them, but come "birdie bedtime" they all get covered. They know the TV is on, etc. but they definitely get very quiet. They just "know" it's bedtime for them (not us)

We don't cover, but I  sing them goodnight, turn out the lights and close the door to the "bird room" aka my office. Aside from Scooter squwaking in protest a few times, all will be quiet until morning no matter what we are doing within earshot.

OTOH, in the morning it's a different story. Once they hear the coffee grinder, it's fair game, even if my husband has gotten up at the cract of dawn... although sometimes if I steadfastly ignore them for ten or fifteen minutes I can go back to sleep until it's quite light out.
