Re: Green cheeked conure
I think a green cheek is an excellent bird for all day interaction. Our green cheek eats with us watches TV, everything even showers with me. He wants to be in the middle of everything we do. ALL DAY LONG......They require a huge amount of time if you give them all the time they want. They can be nippy and moody but you will learn their body language especially if you spend as much time with them as we do. Good luck on your choice of birds.

Re: Green cheeked conure
I agree with the above statements. Casady would also have no problem spending the entire day ON us.

My GCC would happily spend all day out with us. Right now she is using me for a jungle jim.

Re: Green cheeked conure
Are green cheeked conures good companions for people looking for a bird to spend all day with? I am researching different parrot species that would be a good match for me and want something that is as friendly and cuddly as a cockatoo, but in a smaller, easy to manage package. Thanks!

Re: Green cheeked conure
I agree with everyone else also. ChiChi does everything with me. He goes to the post office, store, park, everywhere I go. He "helps" with laundry, dishes, sweeping, etc. always has to climb down to see what I'm eating and of course sneak a bite or 12 lol.
The mood swings are very common but other than that they are by far the best small companion bird! If you want a bird that will want you all day long....a GCC is it. |

Re: Green cheeked conure
Are you kidding? If they could they wouldnt even live in a cage. My Boo gets mad when i hold him because he thinks im gonna put him away. Ive had him out all day before and boy was he happy. But make sure you will be able to do this every single day because having him out all day is going to be routine so if you dont have him out all day one day he is going to be moody and bitey. Because like most conure owners, they become spoiled. But Although my GCC is bitey, he is the best thing that ever happened to me. I wouldnt sell him for $1000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 000000000 infinity dollars. Because he is priceless. Same with my african grey but my Boo bear is my universe. I highly recommend them but be ready for a nippy spoiled brat bird. I can say that. Boy can they be moody brats. Sorry for the harshness but is true. Make sure he knows whos boss. But they dont hold grudges. They will be nippy one day and sweet as sugar the next. Mine definetly doesnt hold a grudge. He will be a moody little bird for an hour then ill put him away for an hour then like 3 hours later he will be so sweet i will have him out all day to reward him. Just make sure your bird knows whos boss. Other wise i love em.

Re: Green cheeked conure
Well, Scooter dealt quite happily with living in a household where we were gone 9-5 and he was out 2-4 hours most days, but he'll take as much play time as he can get.
If you want a cuddly bird that's easy to be around and easy to hang out with, I'd second the cockatiel. Now that I have one, I think they are a bit underrated. They are very sweet and companionable. A GCC in comparision is a hyperactive toddler with a 'tude. They are endlessly entertaining and really quite bright, but easy they aren't. Having had one as a first bird, I'm not sure I'd exactly recommend them as such. Our Cape Parrot is much easier to manage behaviorally. But they are great little birds that have no idea they are little birds. |
