Lucy - Sun/Gold Cap Conure mix - hatched on 2/9/12
We noticed today that Lucy, our Gold Cap Conure, had a swollen cere. It was just on her left side. It looked a little puffy and a little pink. I can notice a difference between the left and right cere, but only very slight. There was no discharge, no crusting and everything looked clear. She's eating and pooping normally and still acting her normal ways. She doesn't seem to be bothered by anything. (except all her pin feathers coming in) I was just a little worried. Maybe she couldve scratched herself and irritated it?? I wanted to get everyones opinions on here first before I call and make an appointment with a vet. My boyfriend will post some pics on here tomorrow so you can see what I'm talking about. Any advice is appreciated! I just hope my little Lucy is okay.

Here are the pictures. I figured she could have just scratched a little to hard and it's a little red.

It may be nothing but i would probably end up calling my vet to be sure.

She is very very cute btw. i love the close ups to show her 'boo boo'. My Georgie hatched 2.8.01 so your baby's birthday ALMOST fell on the same day. :)

There were a few weeks 2 months ago when my sun developed pink nares. It was not swollen or leaking so I attributed it to low humidity. It went away after giving him more misting and adding potted plants for humidity. I don't really know if it helped but he rarely gets pink nares now, when he does it is not as severe and does not last long.

In your conure's case, it is odd that one side is swollen. Have you tried upping the humidity in your house? It may just be an irritation from dryness but I'm no professional. For peace of mind take him to the vet but ask a lot of questions when it comes to treating your bird. I hear just as much stories from vet trips gone wrong for simple health issues.

Humidity is pretty high in our area around this time of year. We have an appointment at a highly recommended avian vet on Saturday at 930.

I doesn't seem like anything major, I'm sure after the vet Lucy will be fine. :)

I have an amazon parrot named Taino El Bravo
Thanks for your posting. Taino, my amazon has a swollen cere too and looks very much like the picture you posted of Lucy. The humidity where I live is very high--more than 80% due to the rains. We live in the country (very jungle) and surrounded by all kinds of critters--mosquitoes, red ants. I, however, have the room we both sleep in protected from any annoying critter. Taino is eating, resting, and no changes in behavior. I am however closely monitoring him.
