Hello, My name is Beth and will be getting a sun conure probably around christmas time. I would like to get some information on conures. What foods? Cages size? We want to also get another bird friend for the conure we were thinking a quaker. Can they be housed together if we purchase them at the same time. Any advice appreciate.

Food: Fresh fruits and vegetables, seed/pellet mix. There are danger foods to watch for though. Do a search for them.
Cage: How much room do you have in your place? The bigger the cage the better, but not too big in case it falls.

Another bird is fine, not in the same cage. How would you feel rooming with someone?

Hi Beth and welcome to the forum:)

You will need a decent sized Cage, but just make sure the bar spacing is not too big.

Sun Conures are very loud! Have you spent any time around one? It would most definately not be advisable to House it with another Bird! You will need a separate Cage for each one.

Yes, We had a sun conure about 14 years ago So I do know how loud they can be. So if we dont put them in the same cage at night. They can be out together during the day on a play perch right.
What brand food do you suggest.

My sun loved the Harrison's pellets, and they make a hot pepper variety that she liked a lot. She liked most of the pellets i offered her though.
i never found my sun to be that terribly loud either.....noisy, yes, but not really much worse than most parrots. i actually miss that sound terribly and wouldn't mind hearing that shrill squawk right now. :)
Good luck with your new baby!

Playing together could go either way. Some birds can get territorial. I would take baby steps before just letting them be in contact with each other.

Well, I figured if I got them at the same time and young that they would get along better.

Cody-Blu, female Blue-Crowned Conure, Hatched - (approx) June 1, 2014, in a South Florida tree.

Pritti (Cherry-Head Conure) -- Fly in Peace my beautiful boy. Forever I'll love you.
Hi Beth,
I once birdsat for a friend's 3 sun conures and 2 quakers at the same time in my home. We kept them in a separate room from our Pritti. The quakers were far louder than the sun conures. The 2 of them were like double as loud as the 3 suns combined. They were all noisy alot of the time, but the quakers were much more prolific and loud. However, none of them individually screech as loud as Pritti, my cherry-headed (red-masked) conure. But pretty screams far less often then the others.

Seriously, you might want to check in to it.
