Do Sun Conures bite a lot?

There's a Sun Conure that's been at the pet store near me for awhile now and I always talk to it.Its sooo sweet and comes right up to the cage and everything and I really wanna buy it but I've been looking around about Sun Conures and I read everywhere that they bite a lot.Is that true?And do you thinking from a pet store would bite alot?Like I said, it seems really sweet and it always comes right to the front of the cage for me but I don't wanna waste my money and be bitten alot.

I don't think there is a real answer to this question. Birds bite because for the most part, it's their only defense. You could get a bird that doesn't care what you to do it, and you could get one that is going to tell you who is boss. Put yourself in a birds shoe, if you didn't have arms and hands, and your feet are too small, what are you going to do to someone when you don't want them touching you?

I think you would need to spend a lot of time training it, and that is going to require a lot of patience on your part. If they are pretty young, it might be easier to correct. But as the bird gets older, it can start to be set in its ways and it will be more difficult to train. I can tell you, it will be worth it. Suns are beautiful. And if you didn't know, Suns make noise. Lots of it

Yeah I heard their very noisy and that doesn't bother me during the day but do they stay quiet at night?I have a Quaker Parrot that's really noisy in the daytime so I'm used to that but I need my sleep at night lol

My sun was a good girl at night. It took her a little while to learn our routine but once she did, she would literally every single night climb to the door of her cage and pop her head out to kiss me goodnight, and then climb back to her sleeping perch and sleep and stay quiet all night.

She did go through a nippy stage. Not all of them do but some do. It took patience on my part. She was really bratty at about 2 yrs old, but she outgrew it and was a really good bird. I got her when she was 6.5 months old, so she was 'easy' to tame and her brattiness was just a phase.

Mine had a fear of strangers when she was young and she bit almost all of my friends if they tried to touch her, but not me. She also outgrew that and learned more confidence and what was safe and what wasn't.

I won't lie and say my Georgie was "easy", she was a handful, but as she matured, she was so sweet and funny and loving, that she was worth the stress during her 'terrible twos'.

If you like that sun, maybe ask if you can handle him/her, find out a little more detail and see if the bird takes to you and there's a connection. That may make the decision easier. (Georgie picked me.....she wasn't even the bird i wanted...she liked me instantly.)

...oh and saying Georgie was quiet at night....she was NOT quiet during the day. Sometimes it was just adorable how rowdy she was. When i was not in the mood, it was irritating, and i felt guilty for feeling that way. She would sense my displeasure and try to 'perform' for my attention, which sometimes was just hilarious. (She would have me grinding my teeth with her behavior, then start to 'brush her teeth' to make me laugh).

lol she sounds so cute. I'll definitely ask the pet store to let me hold the conure before I buy it.It so sweet though and it just comes right up to me everytime and I wanna just take it home right then lol I will say that I am a little leery of bigger birds but I think I would get over that.I got my Quaker when she was like a month or 2 old so I never really had to tame her and get her to like me but I think I could tame that one easily cause it looks so sweet and just wants a family.

Houdini is not a bitey bird. However he beaks me every time I ask him to step up. He do t use pressure but he wraps his beak around my finger. It's cute. But it could just be that I've been lucky with birds lol.

He's not loud at all. Luck again. Lol. He squawks here and there. And has chatter fits. Where he us every word he knows. And then repeats his name over and over. I think maybe to remind everyone of who he is and where he's at. Lol 😄

Lol we'll it's a step up from Lovebirds.I have two lovebirds and one day I would LOVE to have a Blue and gold macaw but I'm not sure if that's ever gonna happe or not

I had a Sun for 20 years and he never bit me. BUT I got him as soon as he weened...I visited him 2-3 times a week before he weened but once he was feathered....and he hung out with me 2-3 hours a day. On Sunday which was my only day off he and i would take our afternoon nap together. It was so funny as he would get right up next to my neck under my chin and roll over on his back and go to sleep.

I got my sun as soon as she was weaned too and she has never bitten me. Even when she throws a fit, which is rare, its been all bark no bite. She hasn't hit maturity yet so we'll see. Mine has been handled by people who come to visit and she hasn't tried to bite anyone. Also she is not loud during the day. Only an occasional squawk in the morning when she gets up and for a minute at bedtime.

Sun conures r not know as a nippy bird. Green cheek s can be very nippy. Sun's r more laid back and just want to cuddle. Sun Conutes r my all time favorite bird. Any and all birds can bite but how they r raised has a lot to do with it. Also noise can be handled if trained correctly from the very beginning. Out in the wild when it is dark birds r quiet, if they make noise at night they get eaten so turn the lights out they settle in and r quiet. I have been breeding and raising Suns for years and I say get the bird! They make great pets just remember training starts from day 1 and u need to do it the correct way or u can have a very loud bird on ur hands!
