Hey friends, I am planning on getting to birds come winter. They are both Pois but I already own 1 Poi already so having 3 does not attract me. I already own a Quaker who at times is a very loud bird. So the noise will not be issue with me. Now how can I convince my sweet wifey that conures are not loud birds. My friends mom owns 1 and says the sun is only loud if they have company over or if someone walks past her cage. Now do they scream all day long for attention? My friend also said that the sun is quiet once it gets dark. I want a sun so bad! They are the single most beautiful parrot out there in my opinion. I know they love to cuddle but are they one person birds? What kind of selling points can I say to my wife to convince her? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I am a breeder and Sun Conures r my Favoriet birds of all time. Any bird can be loud but if trained correctly and givin what they need they don't have to scream. When young if u run over every time they scream u r teaching them if they scream u come running! They don't care if u r saying I love u or be quiet! They just know u come and they get attention. So if they r yelling and u know they have food water and toys and that they r safe walk away from them and don't come back till they r quiet! If u r holding them put then down and walk away! Same as nipping or bitting. U leave if the r "bad" only come back when they r "good" this works very well and they learn fast. Don't use the time out to put them in their cage or play stand because that teaches them to bite or scream if they want back in the cage or play stand. Leave them on the floor or table with nothing fun to do.

Sun conures love to cuddle, r so funny, perfect size can learn to talk and do tricks! The best birds if u ask me! They r not 1 person birds they like everyone if u teach them to. If u r the only person they ever see then yes they will not like others. My Sun Mango would go to anyone till the day he died! Good luck and if u have questions feel free to ask.

Sun conures are the best! I might get one in June if I get honer roll . If you want to convince your wife show them cute videos of them on you tube. They can be loud at any time of the day but less likely at night. They are sometimes one person birds but if you expose them to different people they'll be okay. They are GREAT watch birds. They will peep ,chirp or screech at the sight of someone depending on the bird

I was actually watching a video of the Sun screaming to get the owners attention. Soon as I heard that I knew then that my wife is not going to go for this, lol. I also found out that the female suns are quieter than the males. I was going to use this as my selling point but after hearing the sun scream I knew my fate has been set. So I have to accept my lovely Pois though the Red Bellied has one quality that is similar to the sun and that it also loves to cuddle.

Well I got home and gave my the proposal for the Sun. I gave her the low down that the females are quieter. I also let be known that early training will help curb the noise. I also explained that suns are quieter in the evenings. To my surprise my wife took the bait. I still can not believe I am getting a Sun finally. Now I have to think of a name for a girl. I also read that the female suns have more red on the face which means I will be getting a more colorful bird. I am soo happy!

I have never found 1 sex to be more quiet then the other so don't know where u got that from but a female bird can have problem males will never have! They can lay eggs which they can become very defensive off! Please keep that in mind! Also laying eggs his hard on there body and they can die from egg binding if not taken care of properly

As far as color that is not true that females have more red or color!!!! Males and females r the same!!! It depend on the birds parents, some have more yellow some have more red but this is Both sexes! They have red factor Sun Conure that r more red but again, males and females r the same!!!

Well I already did make an adjustment. I was suppose to get two birds and now because of the Suns tendency to be loud I gave up my desire for another Poi. But I do not regret that decision. I emailed my breeder today and found out to my delight that she will be having 2 female Suns available in two weeks. So now I have to scramble to find a cage and toys for my sweet new baby. If my Sennie was already jealous of me spending time with my little Quaker then he will be in for a surprise real soon, lol.

I hate to say Sally is wrong but she is NOT a breeder and she doesn't own any Sun Conures. I just totally disagree with her and will tell her that on FB because I am friends with her. I think talking to someone that owns them and has been breeding them for years would know about a type of bird better then someone who doesn't do either. Good Luck with ur baby but I would say get a male!!!

I have 2 suns, a male and a female pair. They are both LOUD ! We laugh that all the other birds are either gonna vote them off the island or Secretly murder them in their sleep. I have Amazons, Alexandrine, cockatiels, Eclectus, Blue crown conures, and the suns. The suns are definately the loudest of them all. They can and will screech all day just for the fun of it, if they feel like causing a ruckus. Some days they are sweet and quiet, but be well aware they are loud and it is an ear piercing loud. As far as the coloring, it is the exact same for male and female as mine are surgically sexed and are identical.

Well if you keep two of the same species then expect double the noise. Ms. Sally could be wrong and Ms. Amy could be right. I will admit that. The Sun has been my secret dream bird ever since I got into parrot keeping. I will say more than a Gray, GreenWing Macaw or even a Ekkie. I just love their colors and personality. This will complete my flock. I already told my wife about the females being quieter so I can not go back on that. The egg laying does not scare me. I live with a female Lovie who I have had for 14 years. Any ideas for a name for a female Sun?

I've known plenty of critter experts who did a lot of great things, but got a wild hare about some topic or other and spouted nonsense. I really liked Linda Tellington-Jones' TTouch approach with horses until she started claiming you could predict a horse's personality based on which way the hair grows, a concept for which there is not one shred of scientific evidence nor any plausible causal mechanism.

The plural of anecdote is NOT proof, and the perception of a pattern by a single individual can be no more than seeing pictures in the clouds. Human brains love to see patterns where there are none.

I don't understand the concept of "I said it so I can't take it back" but even if females aren't any quieter than males, if you want a female why not?

I personally like to get to know my animals before I name them, but that carries some dangers... what kinds of names do you like?

Well I visit a website for bird names and go over it with the wifey. That same website helped choose a name for a Red Bellied that I was suppose to get....Casper. But I decided I want a Sun instead. I like childhood cartoon names and that is why my Sennie is called Snoopy. I am a big kid @ heart, lol.

All the best of luck with your new baby, make sure to throw on some pictures! A sun was my first parrot love as well, but their high pitched calls have stopped me from ever getting one... some day tho!!! some day :) when i move out of the city!

sun conures are beautiful but I can't stand their vocalization, it's so high pitch and loud. I prefer the scream of my friends blue and gold over a conure anyday lol

They do make a harsh sounding call but that comes with taking a wild animal into your home. In in the wild they can easily be spotted because of their bright colors so having a loud alarming sound makes sense. I will get used to it. Wifey and I finally chose a name for it ........ Peaches! I wanted to name her Bubbles but both agreed with Peaches. Today my Quaker Breezy was playing hide and seek with me. She made a tent with some newspaper and she was hiding inside. So when I was calling out her name she responded with her flock call for me. She could see me through self made tent since she cut some tiny holes. I acted like I could not find her and played along her game. Quakers are real smart birds. I was amazed by her antics. I finally got her to come out by tempting her with some grapes. She could not turn down the offer, lol.

Great for you! Have you thought of the name mango? Remember that when you get your new arrivals post pics! I Agee with amysavairy there's no noise or color difference between male and female.

I will have to beg my daughter to help post the pictures since I am not tech savy. The Sun is a girl so mango would be ruled out. But that would be a great name for a boy.
