"Pollo" Golden Conure
Sadie is a three year old labrador mix, well behaved and a sweetheart. She knows she's not allowed to get too close to the bird. Pollo is a golden conure who was out of her cage this morning in the den when she decided to take a short flight... and then landed on the dog. When Pollo landed, she grabbed onto Sadie's collar on the back of her neck. Sadie stood up and the collar shifted around so the bird was hanging upside down from Sadie's neck flapping her wings like crazy. I think her talons were stuck in the fiber of the dog collar. The dog freaked out and bolted through two dog doors to get outside with the bird hanging on like an upside-down rodeo cowboy. Then Pollo freed herself and flew over the fence! She was found 10 minutes later on a rose bush in a backyard two houses down. Being bright yellow, she was easy to spot! She's back home safe but how's that for a freak accident, scarey adventure? :orange:

I am soo glad they both are okay!! Now, that being said I did giggle just a bit when you said she was hanging on like a rodeo clown. All I kept picturing was one of those little monkeys riding on the back of a dog. Then all I could picture was your dog bucking like a rodeo bronc. I am so glad your lil guy was found safe and sound and I pray neither will need therapy for their lil rodeo stunt (therapy is quite expensive!):D:D

Thanks everyone! After thinking about it, it could have been alot worse than it was. Had Pollo been right-side up on the back of Sadie's neck instead of upside-down hanging from Sadie's throat area, Pollo would have had a head on collision with the top of the dog doors. The other good things are that no one was bitten by the other and no one was hurt. Pollo isn't clipped so she could have flown away or been attacked by the numerous cats in the area. She's a lucky birdy! They haven't been back together yet since the incident so it will be interesting to see if it affected their relationship.

That is a hilarious description! Not a funny event, however. Glad it worked out and everyone is ok. I will be curious to see how the dog is around the bird in the future!

omg when i first started reading this, i had a chuckle imagining Pollo riding Sadies back -how cute - but wow you would have been freaking out when they both bolted thru the dog door. So glad that they are both safe from their horrible adventure!
