We have had Kai now for a week and he is doing great. Starting to get more comfortable with everything. Playing with toys, hollering in the morning if he hears us but we haven't uncovered him yet. My question is this: He has what looks like new feather coming out on his head, and around his throat. I was told he is 14 weeks, how long will it be before he is fully feathered?

Pineapple GCC--still unnamed!
I could be wrong, as my GCC is only 4 months old, but I think they should have all their feathers in by the time they're weaned...at least that's what I always thought. Mine does have 4 or 5 pins under the full grown feathers on her cheeks, but those won't "add" much and I would consider her fully feathered. I think a few pins are probably normal.

I have heard though that sometimes when a baby molts away her baby feathers, ie her first set, her adult colors will sometimes be slightly differently colored.

Thanks, :) I just noticed that he had a lot on his forehead and was curious. Doesn't seem to bother him when I scratch his head or neck.
