my 8 year old has a habit of shredding newspaper, but my 3 month old learned to do it too and i'm worried hes eating it rather than shredding..
i use black and white and colored news paper from local grocery stores..
is there a better alternative or is it okay to eat it?

I've read on another thread that colored newspaper ink is toxic for parrots, but I dont know whether that's true or not.

If it's not made from soy ink, then yes, it can be dangerous.

Black and white newspaper *mostly* uses soy ink.

They might enjoy chewing up a phone book (weave the pages through the cage bars, drill a hole in the center of the spine and hang/bolt it to the cage), or maybe some toys with adding machine paper. You can buy the toys that come with the paper, then buy the adding machine tape separately from an office supply store (usually cheaper than buying it specifically for the birds) as refills.

Look into pinata toys, palm toys, yucca toys, etc! Find lots of chewables!

You can also provide fresh *safe* branches (safe for parrots, no pesticides or chemicals) as some other alternatives to chewing!
