There's a very nice cage at my work(petsmart) and it usually costs about 350 but nobody ever bought it so they marked it down to 245 today and they just gave us 30% off coupons on ANYTHING in the store as assosiate appreciation or something so that gets me a $350 cage for $171.50!!!!! Im so excited! im going to buy it tomorrow morning before anyone else tries to:):) my new sun baby's gonna have a beautiful cage!!

Super Pet EZ Care Dometop Bird Cage - Cages & Stands - Bird - PetSmart

Looks like a good sized cage! My only concern is the open top portion, I don't trust those things.

I'm sure your sun will enjoy it once you set the cage up for him/her!!!!

There is nothing wrong if you keep the open tops padlocked shut.

I never liked them when I first saw them, and after hearing two stories, I definitely do not like them. One involved a male eclectus sitting on the perch in the open top cage. He took off flying which dislodged the perch and caused the cage top to come crashing down. Thankfully, the ekkie went up and away rather than down, but imagine what could have happened to him should he have gone down instead of up.

Another one involved a B&G macaw. The owner was away at work so the macaw decided he wanted out of the cage via the open top. He managed to get it open enough to stick his head through. What the owner came home to that night no owner should *EVER* have to go through. And no, the bird was not alive when the owner came home.

So no, I can't advocate the use of open top cages unless the owner takes measures to make sure that the doors to the open top cannot be moved by the bird. My concern is for the safety of the bird(s) that will be living in those cages.

That's a very nice cage :D

I have an open top cage, I never use the top though. You can use stainless steal quick links to keep the top shut (the types that you use for toys)

I think there are thousands of people out there that have open top cages and have never had any problems!!

I dont use the open top part of Codie's cage as she prefers to be on her playstand all day!

Gees, everything CAN be dangerous to a bird, no kidding! This IS an AWESOME cage, for a GREAT price, too. :)

I had an open cage top for my Caique and never EVER had any problems with it whatsoever. :D

Remember, opinions are like..... <fill in the blank> ;)

Yes i agree there are ALWAYS dangers with pretty much everything! but i'm not sure a sun would be strong enough to left those doors? but i will definatly make sure its shut when i don't want it open:) and i just noticed today that the front door opens (of course) but then you can open the ENTIRE front part of the cage for cleaning!! how awesome:) all the locks are the one where you turn the little pole and it locks into a little notch. i'm not sure what there called but there pretty secure the bowls cant be tipped and they're ceramic which is pretty heavy too and it has that awesome seed catch!! i love it haha!

Jasmines cage top opens but I never use it - I've hung various toys from her roof now anyhow. She likes walking on top of her cage much more fun than a perch would be!! She isn't strong enough to open by herself but just in cage I use a tiny padlock.

I just bought a similar cage, and we have two of those ones in my store on clearance. :)

My conure's cage is an older cage and the open top actually slides down the sides rather than out, don't know why they don't make them like that instead.

With open top cages, smaller birds can't really do too much on them so it's fine for a conure. The bigger birds are a different story so I would also say no open top cages for bigger birds, BUT it also depends on how those cages are made, some are made cheaply...
