New and PROUD owner of a Conure. One concern though.

He's (/she but I consider him a boy so far) not quite a GCC he's one of those slightly more colourful ones (probably still a GCC).

He's super friendly and hates being in his cage when I'm around (poor guy paces back and forth till I get him). I try and instill some independence by making him stay in his cage for a while (which is MASSIVE and full of toys... spoiled eh?).

Now he's barely 3 months old, and I saw him already regurgitating (two separate occasions), facing me on my finger each time, head bobbin away. Is this an I love you already? or a sign of sickness? He doesn't seem sick in any way, and he has these random bursts of energy prior and after to the head bobbing.

If your unsure, it's always best to have him check by a avian vet to be sure. Do you know the age of your baby?

He was hatched in mid September.

Congratulations! Sounds like you have a great new addition. The regurgitating can be a sign of affection. Our Quaker (who is about 8 months old), does this with my son sometimes. Is it super smelly--kind of like baby spitup? If it is accompanied by head bobbing and is occasional, I wouldn't worry as this is a common baby thing.

You do need to get your bird used to his cage otherwise he won't be happy unless he is with you--which could lead to problems down the road. It might take some time, but is important. Our Blue Crowned Conure was that way for a couple of weeks. It took me a while to figure out how to keep him occupied--which types of toys would be best--and he needed to know that his cage was ok too. I spent a lot of time reading in the chair next to his cage. He hung on the side of the cage next to me so I purchased a perch for that location and a shredder toy--which he really likes. He still would prefer to be out with me, but now he patiently plays in his cage or sits on his perch chatting. I would love to have him out with me all day, but it isn't practical so he has to learn how to be happy in his cage. Your bird is probably just adjusting and needs to figure out how to be occupied in his domain! It is great that he wants to be with you!!!!! It's pretty awesome and bodes well for the future.

Thanks so much for the warm invitation and the advice. Yeah his spit-up smelled like vinegar, and he was bobbing like crazy and acting excited.

I'll go out of my way to figure out how he can get used to his cage. He has lots of toys so far, and I think he does well when I'm not around, but I'll try and find out what he likes either way (maybe with a time-lapse camera or something). I think he likes shredding stuff so far (paper in his cage maybe).

It think he's saying that he loves you. Jasmine my GCC does this sometimes - distraction works

While my GCC would rather be out she has learned that her (rather large) cage is fun too. After she settled in she wanted to be out all the time, which I can't do because to have her out I have to get the cats out of the room and shut the door. So I split the time between them. She use to pace the bottom of the cage near me, and that did go on for a couple weeks. Now she will happily play by herself in the cage, she has tons of toys, which I switch around. Some of her favorites are a bell that is loose, she loves to carry it around. A larger ball she pushes with her head and a smaller ping pong ball with beads inside it and a strip of leather. The last one is her favorite toy, she goes crazy for it, she carries it around and shakes it like a dog. I also take a paper towel, put a treat in it and tie it off. That way she has to work for the treat.
