So, yesterday both Hamlet and Mac were hanging out on me late in the morning. There was mowing going on outside and they could hear the mowers and the weed-whackers and it was kinda making them uneasy and I could tell. Then, my dryer went off with it's loud "buzz" and they both startled off my shoulder. Mac fluttered to her cage and was fine ... Hamlet would have normally done the same thing, but this time she didn't ...

She flew haphazardly around the room and knocked her melon off the corner of a picture frame ... and she freaked the snot right out of me ... she made a little noise, that I had never heard, and she flew back to me and she was very, very heavily panting ... there was some blood and she ripped a few feathers out of her skull (which is why I think there was blood, she pulled the healthy feathers right out) ...

I assessed that the blood would stop on it's own, but she was dazed and I was a little freaked out ... so I called my Vet and spoke directly to him (have I mentioned that I love my Vet - he's awesome!!) I was told that I should be on the lookout for the normal things (perching capabilities, food & water intake, etc.) ...

About 2 hours later, Ham was back to her old self ... thank goodness, it was quite a little chaos that we had yesterday ...

Moral of the story - it's molting season and feathers are growing in more than you know (I hadn't realized that both Ham and Mac are almost fully flighted now ... ) so please keep tabs on flight feathers if you haven't checked lately, and keep 'em to your level of comfort.

Wow that is quite a story! I probably would have lost my mind and paniced more than she did. BTW she is gorgeous!!!! Stunning colours.

I was quite freaked out ... but, after taking half a second to think about it, I was ok ...

I got my start with a camera shooting College and AHL level hockey games, proceeded to shoot some NHL games and then moved on to young children (under 5 years old) ... it's amazing what you can do with an almond and a bit of anticipation ...

Cool!
I shoot insects sometimes, I like it... I just need a better camera.
I have a bunch of bugs in my house(in frames or cages).
I raise moths - you can google Cecropias, Polyphemus, Lunas...etc, which I like to shoot. Entered some photo contests too!
I'll post a pic of one of my many moths sometime.
