Hi everyone,

I'm a new member on here, however I have come across pages when googling things for my green cheek. I have noticed some changes in my bird over the past few days and I am just interested in your opinions. I will tell you all the information below:
I moved house on Thursday, Izzie (my bird) travelled a short distance in the car. It was quite a warm day - she was without food for about 2-3 hours, she had water though. She ate some red slushy with me Thursday and Friday, red in colour.
Saturday morning she did 3 poos (normally only 1 large green and white poo) that had no white and were a browny colour in a worm shape. One was larger than the others. She was acting normal. Since Saturday morning she is still pooing a brown colour but there is now white in it.
I purchased a worming syrup, the directions were 10 drops per 20 ml, so I gave her 200ml and 100 drops. She took a sip straight away and flicked it away. Since then I have not seen her drink from her dish. Tonight she started to be sick (regurgitate), I gave her water and she drank a large amount - like she hadn't drank since before worming.
She seems more lethargic at the moment, however it is 10pm and she is normally a little sleepy at this time as she goes to bed when we do.

I don't know if I'm over thinking things or if I should be worried. She means the world to me and I can't help but worry. So if you have any suggestions or ideas please let me know.

Concerned birdie mummy.

I think your best bet is to have her checked out by an avian veterinarian. Birds are notorious for hiding signs of illness, so if a bird is exhibiting symptoms, there is usually something going on. There is a limit to how much advice we can give you over the internet and in my opinion she should be seen by a qualified veterinarian to rule out illness.

If you don' t mind me asking, why did you give her the worming syrup?

Like we humans, birds systems react to foods differently, i.e. the sweetened slush drinks, watery fruits & veggies, etc., however their systems pass presentations differently. The brown wormy looking poops with white, chalky looking urates is normal. Be very careful of giving companion birds any wormers. Unless they are allowed to access outdoor soil, or interact with wild birds or areas frequented by wild birds, their chance of worm infestation is virtually nil. Wormers could cause diarrhea and may even be the cause of your bird's lethargic behavior.

Here are some poop pics:

On re-reading your post, I neglected to address your notation that the bird did not go back to the water.....most companion birds will reject medicated water unless they are force-fed the solution. While birds will beak and taste new things at play or when they are on a curiosity exploring trip around their environment, they normally reject foods and drink that they have not been taught is good. In the wild, parents and flock mates teach them what is and is not good. With medications, those that I have ever taken generally taste like h..., so force feeding is usually required with companion birds. One other thing about over the counter medications is that dosages are usually generalized and in the case of wormer medications, at least those that I have seen, are for chickens or other fowl, so calculations for smaller birds may need to be considered. Some more poop pics to go with above reply:

a red slushy?, not a good idea, but we all learn as we go :)...trust me no one knows everything.
please take your bird to a vet, and don't wait. You might want to take a few fresh samples of fecal matter along with you.

good luck

We are all reading and wanting to hear how things are doing. Keep us posted. My conure loves my morning tea. I hope that doesn't hurt him.

Thank you so much for all your replies!!!

I gave her the worming syrup as she hadn't been done before and I thought I was a bad parent by not worming her - it makes sense though as to why she wouldn't like it - it's not normal for her.

Yeah red slushy is now a no no for her - but it's so hard to resist her pleas for attention when she wants what I have (I know it's naughty).

I've never needed an avian vet before, so I will definitely be doing some looking around today to hopefully find one close to me.

Thanks again for your responses!!!
