Alrighty so heres my questions, I know i've only had him since sunday but this morning i've already fed him twice! once at 6 which he ate about 12-16 cc before only excepted 6 and only 6 again at 9? i figured were about to start the weaning process considering he's 7.5 weeks old now. is it normal for them to refuse the morning feeding?? right after i fed him he cuddled next to his stuffed frog and slept. after this feeding he's wants to play instead. i figured i'd give him some big bird food to see what he does so i cut up some peppers and carrots and warmed them a little and mixed a bit of roudybush pellets in and he seemed to really like carrots! he doesn't know he's supposed to eat it yet but he seems content to sit there and lick the bite size piece in his mouth for quite a while! lol i gave him a little mushy pellet and he gobbled it up in no time! im guessing since its kinda like his formula? but ya just checking if this is normal and if i should worry about him refusing more formula!

Here's a pic of him tasting big bird food! he started actually biting them! i could here the little sound and idk if he ate any or just cut them in half lol please excuse the mess in the background those are afternoon chores haha!:)

What is your feeding schedule?

Conures wean from 7-11 weeks so he may be an early weaner. They should be fed every 4-5 hours and yes the morning feeding is the first to be refused. They are more excited to come out and play than eat. It is a good thing that he is eating out of the bowl either it be formula or mushed pellets. Im not an expert but from my experience with raising birds and what works for me is to let him eat all he wants from the bowl first. Then when hes done eating from the bowl on his own, feel his pouch, if hes full then hes doing great, if hes not full then I would go with the syringe and feed him that way till his pouch is full or till he refuses. Again, thats just what worked for me.

Awesome:) ok well my feeding schedule was 6am then around 1pm then again at 9pm i know thats longer then 4-5 hours but he ate about 16cc and he emptied about an hour to thirty minutes before the next feeding. but today i've already fed him about 4 times only a little bit at a time. he refuses it after about 6-8cc now and he's not actually eating the food yet although i peaked in his box and caught him picking at his veggies and pellets:) he's not eating nearly enough to take a feeding away but he sure is trying! i just have to feed him more often now is that ok??

Oh and i know this is a bad question to ask but i've never seen any info on when exactly is it ok to move him to his cage? with the low perches of course. but he perches fine on my hand and on the back of my chair and i think he should be upgraded to his cage instead of the box? does that sound right?

Charlie didnt want his formula at times even though he was obviously hungry. It is a part of the weaning process when they reject feeding but is not still eating on its own. They will nornmally skip the morning feeding as they are excited to come out and play instead of eating. Just make sure he has food and water at all times so he can play/practice on eating.

As for the cage thing, for me, once Charlie didnt like to be in his brooder I set him in his cage with liners on the bottom so his feet wont go the the bottom cage part. I also left his heating lamp in the bottom tray that cages the dropping so that he cant get to it but yet be warm if he needed. At first he would stay at the bottom then eventually he learned to navigate pretty fast.

Ok he's been climbing up to the big food and water dishes so i think im gonna move the perches up a little bit so he can sit up higher instead of at the bottom of his cage. i have a towel at the bottom so he can walk easier and cushon him if he falls and i left his stuffed frog in there to snuggle with:) he actually slept on top of a toy that i attached to the lower part for him to play so idk how much he still needs his frog but ill leave in there just in case haha
