Green Cheeked Conure
Hi!

My name is Joe and my girlfriend, Tiffany, purchased a green cheeked conure named Ace about 8 months ago. She got it from a breeder as a baby and hand fed it for about a month. He loves her. Nestled in her hair, would follow her around.

We don't live together but we spend the weekends together. I've also watched over him for a week, multiple times. Needless to say he became quite close with me as well. Up until a couple weeks ago I would say he loved us both equally, if anything he loved her more.

It started either two or three weeks ago, but Ace has begun to bite her when I'm around. He's biting hard enough to draw blood. For instance we were both sitting on the couch with space between us. He would walk over to her side or circle her. He would jump up on her knee and lunge at her hand if it came close to him. He also flew to her and landed on her shoulder, just to bite her hand. On both these occasion he has let me pick him up no problem. During the week when I'm not there she says that they get along fine. She showers with him and everything.

We both really love the little guy and hate to see him act like this. Does anyone have any advice? If you need anything clarified, please let me know.

Thank You,
Joe

Sounds like green cheek jealousy & she's getting bitten because she is getting too close to you. He's become hormonal & it's his way of protecting his hen......

No petting of feathers or body stroking...head scritches only.....

In a month or two, when his raging hormones have slowed down, he'll be back to his old self.

If he gets agitated enough, there's a good chance you will become a target too, only he may get more aggressive with you. you guys have several options...put him in his cage when you're there, put him in another room, clip his wings or endure the jealousy until his next mating season in about six months.

Good luck
