looking to buy a conure

Hi all, my fiance and I have been looking at breeders around here and there are only the sun and jenday conures. Personally I love both though the jenday seems to be cheaper.

We had thought about getting a Quaker parrot but they only seem to bond with one. I heard conures were more fun and loving.

I have seen nice hand rared babies for €250.

Kind regards

Sarah

Re: looking to buy a conure

Conures make brilliant little companions who if handreared think they are human. If you have one life will never be the same but you will always have someone waiting for you to come home and they be let out to spend time with you.
Lots of brilliant useful information on this site for you to explore

Re: looking to buy a conure

They seems to love cuddles and affection. The other good thing is they do not bond to one person from what I have been reading? We have the choice of the sun, jenday, nanday conures along with a Senegal parrot. Though I´m a bit iffy with a Senegal, though my breeder actually recommended the Senegal.

Re: looking to buy a conure

I love love conures, I prefer nanday conures as I think they are extremely pretty but also love jendays, and sun conures are little bundles of joy. Just remember that many conures are re-homed around puberty, they tend to get nippy, but all birds usually do around this time. Training with any parrot is a must.

Also, conures have a loud ear piercing call. I could never get a sun, jenday, or nanday because I personally cannot stand their natural call.

I wouldn't trust anyone selling conures for that low price! My GCC was £349. Both Jenday and sun conures are very noisy so take that into consideration if you live in a flat or apartment complex

Re: looking to buy a conure

The prices are low due to the economic crisis here. Prices were €350 the breeder has a good reputation too. It is something I am careful of is where I buy from. Also the UK as I remember was always more expensive for parrots.

We will be living in a house with patio and pool, well when it is finished

Re: looking to buy a conure

Suns are more expensive due to being more popular for the bright color alone. Quakers can be as friendly as conures, it's not that the bird is a one person species, it's more the gender. If your quaker or conure is male, it can decide one of you is his mate and will be more attached to one person. to counter this, or try to prevent it, you both should give treats and attention equally. Never feed them from your mouth though. I made that mistake once with my roommate's indian ringneck. I still have to watch him a bit when he's interacting with me and reject his advances. See, mates feed one another from the mouth and when your bird tries to feed you, they regurgitate.

Expect a cheaper bird if it is older, expense is mostly due to the novelty of having a chick. Suns, expect $400-$600 for a chick, nandays probably around $400 and under...well, not sure about your area.

They can and will scream for attention and it can take years to train them. Some are just bullheaded and never learn. I live with a screaming sun and have for eight years. My own sun, had him not screaming in a few months, at least not for attention anyway. He was pretty old when I got him though. Older birds are also cheaper because due to lack of experience and lack of proper training or time to do so, they can have all manners of behavioral issues.

Likely best to get a chick.

Re: looking to buy a conure

Hi there, we would never buy an adult bird we will be getting a chick, my fiance has a lot of experience raring chicks (lovebirds, tiels, budgies and a quaker parrot) which is good. The prices here are lower than last year due to the economic crisis that has hit Spain, so a lot of breeders have dropped their prices, especially the gentleman who lives close to us. The prices in the US especially with the $ would be hard to equate to the €. Though normally sun conures in this area go for €450 maximum.

Going to use the clicker training method for our parrot too
