Fruit flys in the food dish

I've noticed a couple of fruit flys hanging around the cage lately. No idea where they are coming from, but there here, and slowly becoming more and more.
It's annoying the hell out of me, and can only imagine how Tekno feels.
Any SAFE remedies to get rid of them?

I have read that if you put a small dish of apple cider vinegar on a counter than any fruitflies will be attracted to it and end up drowning themselves in the vinegar. It is worth a try and as long as the birds aren't able to drink it as well. it is a non toxic solution
