Green Cheek Conure
I bought a 4 month old pineapple green cheek conure from a breeder back in November to help me cope with the loss of my first GCC. My first conure(tango) was a character. The first day I brought him home, he was out of his cage exploring the top of my head. He HAD to be on me at all times, and if I were in a different room he would come find me. He liked to mimic my sounds and picked up a good 10 words before he passed. My new bird(mango) is very skittish, shy and quiet. Any loud noise sends him flying off his cage. I live alone but am home literally all day. His cage door stays open for him to come and go as he pleases while I'm home. He spends the majority of the day climbing around the outside of his cage. He just doesn't have that typical "gotta be all up in your business" personality most GCCs have. I thought maybe he doesn't like or click with me. he does not allow anyone but me pick him up and he will become an attack bird towards strange fingers(especially men), except a child which is weird. I brought him to my parent's house and they said when I left the room, he would become anxious, climb onto the back of the couch and seemed to look for me. I kind of felt better after that. I guess he is just a nervous bird with a unique personality. Anyone else have an anti-social conure ? :p

Key word MOST! MOST green cheeks have that personality, but not all. If u got him from a petstore like petsmart then it's probably not used to u.

My first gcc was kind of like this one. Except she loved me and hated everyone else but didn't cuddle didn't play with any toys etc. She was just kind of anti-social and anti-playful. I bought her hand raised from a reputable breeder. After she passed in a tragic accident I got this lil guy. He is totally opposite, complete social bug goes to anyone and everyone plays with all his toys and cuddles rolls over on his back to play etc. two complete and total opposite birds. It's weird how they are so completely different.

1 BFA- Kiwi. Hatch circa 98', forever home with us Dec. 08'
You have to keep in mind, each parrot is an individual and that a "typical" temperament doesn't really exist. I've never had conures, but grew up with 2 amazons and a cockatoo (also species known for being friendly) who were all very social and clingy birds. When my husband and I adopted our BFA, we assumed once he had settled into a loving home, he would also become more friendly and social. Not so, Kiwi is a VERY independent bird and he generally likes keeping his space (except mealtimes, then he will be really friendly so he can raid your food lol). We do see that he likes us, since he plays little "whistle" games with us and dances for us but he just doesn't want to be cuddled or sit on our leg very often kind of thing. We accept and love him for who he is as an individual and just enjoy the funny things he does and "non-contact" ways he engages/interacts with us instead. I would strongly suggest against pouching Mango to be a cuddle bird if that isn't in her nature. She does need to be taught to step up when you tell her to, but past that, she doesn't have to be like any other bird you've had in the past. She is her own little individual self, and I'm sure as time goes on, you will find plenty of things she does that proves she loves you even if she doesn't want to be all over you.

I purchased mango from the same breeder I purchased my other conure from. Mango did not know step up when I brought him home, but after a few months of work, he now will step up for me. He enjoys cuddling in my hoodie pockets, my hair, or wherever he finds comfy. I love him the same as I loved my other conure, Tango.
